The problems of dyscalculia in elementary and grammar school education

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou dyskalkulie na základní a střední škole. Celá práce je rozdělena do tří stěžejních částí: teoretické, výzkumné a praktické. Teoretickou část jsem zpracovala na základě prostudované literatury. Je zaměřena na obecnou charakteristiku specifických poruch učení a na základní definice a projevy dyskalkulie. Výzkumná část se zabývá rozdílem v oblasti dyskalkulie na základních a středních školách. Zkoumá množství žáků a studentů se specifickými poruchami učení, zvláště dyskalkuliků na těchto školách; informovanost pedagogů matematiky o specifické poruše počítání a v neposlední řadě zkoumá metody práce pedagogů matematiky s žáky či studenty s dyskalkulií. Praktická část obsahuje moje poznatky a zkušenosti, které jsem načerpala dlouholetou spoluprací se studentem s dyskalkulií. Zde se zabývám vývojem jeho matematických potíží v průběhu školní docházky a rozebírám chyby a problémy, které se u něj vyskytly v průběhu naší spolupráce na střední škole.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with problems concerning dyscalculia in elementary and grammar schools. It is divided into three main sections – theoretical, research, and practical. Theoretical section was elaborated on the basis of studied literature. Its aim is to focus on general characteristics of specific learning disorders, as well as on basic definitions and displays of dyscalculia. The research section analyzes differences in dyscalculia in elementary and grammar schools. It examines the amount of pupils and students with specific learning disorders, especially dyscalculia in these particular types of school, as well as the informativeness of maths instructors concerning the specific counting disorder. Last, but not least, it examines the methodology of school maths instructors with pupils and students suffering from dyscalculia. The practical section includes my personal knowledge and experience which was gained by my cooperation with a student suffering from dyscalculia. My interest here lies in the process of his mathematical difficulties in the course of his school attendance, and I analyze his errors and problems which occured during our cooperation in grammar school.
