Impacts of the coronavirus crisis on the labor market in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá současnou globální krizí způsobenou epidemií viru COVID-19. Konkrétně zkoumá, jak a v jaké intenzitě ovlivnila trh práce v České republice, především na ukazateli registrované míry nezaměstnanosti, a analyzuje vládní opatření vydaná za účelem zmírnění jejích dopadů. Stručně se věnuje také srovnání s jinými hospodářskými krizemi v historii. Součástí práce je výzkum prováděný smíšenou metodou zahrnující dotazníkové šetření a rozhovory s personalisty a zástupci čtyř výrobních firem. Dotazníky měří dopady krize v různých druzích výdělečné činnosti a různých oborech a dále hodnotí vládní programy. Rozhovory přináší pohled klíčových zaměstnanců na propouštění ve firmách a na souvislost s typem výroby nebo velikostí firmy. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že existují významné rozdíly v růstu míry nezaměstnanosti v závislosti na oboru činnosti. Poukazuje také na neefektivitu a malou míru využívání vládních programů. V závěru jsou uvedena shrnutí situace a doporučení pro efektivnější postup při podobných událostech.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the current global crisis caused by the epidemic of the COVID-19 virus. Specifically, it examines how and to what extent it has affected the labor market in the Czech Republic, especially on the indicator of the registered unemployment rate, and analyzes government measures issued to mitigate its effects. It also briefly deals with comparisons with other economic crises in history. The thesis includes research conducted by a mixed method including a questionnaire survey and interviews with HR professionals and representatives of four manufacturing companies. Questionnaires measure the effects of the crisis in different types of employment and different fields and provide an assessment of government programs. The interviews bring the view of key employees on dismissals in companies and the connection with the type of production or the size of the company. The research showed that there are significant differences in the growth of the unemployment rate depending on the field of activity. It also points to inefficiencies and low levels of the governmental programs using. Finally, summaries of the situation and recommendations for more effective practices in similar future events are given.
