Comparison of chemistry textbooks in the Czech Republic and Great Britain using ChatGPT

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou a porovnáním učebnic chemie z České republiky a z Velké Británie pomocí ChatGPT ve verzi 4.0. Pro tuto práci byly vybrány 4 učebnice z České republiky a 2 z Velké Británie pro žáky ve věku 15 let. V rámci analýzy učebnic jsem se zaměřil na kvantitu a náročnost chemických výpočtů, interdisciplinaritu, příklady z reálného života, experimenty a zakomponování nových poznatků vědy. Mezi nové poznatky vědy byly zvolené fullereny a lithium-iontové baterie. Dospělo se k výsledku, že ChatGPT zvládá analýzu větších souborů. V textu úspěšně vyhledává chemické výpočty, mezioborové vztahy, příklady z reálného života či experimenty. Během analýzy výpočtů určil správně postup včetně jednotky. Nicméně nedokázal definovat přesný počet některých prvků. Co se týče přítomnosti nových poznatků vědy byly zjištěny mírné odchylky. Právě u učebnic pro střední školy v České republice nemohl najít informace k fullerenům. Samotné porovnání bylo zaměřeno na kvantitu obrázků a chemických výpočtů, větší důraz na praktický život a výskyt interdisciplinárních vztahů. ChatGPT také přiřazoval vhodné učebnice k vybraným ŠVP. Kvantita obrázků byla uváděna s vysokou mírou chybovosti. Dokázal rozhodnout, ve které učebnici se nachází větší počet chemických výpočtů. Avšak jejich přesné množství stanovil pouze u některých porovnání. Zjistil, ve které učebnici se častěji vyskytují mezioborové vztahy a také, kde je kladen větší důraz na praktický život. Při výběru učebnic pro ŠVP byly v popředí převážně učebnice z České republiky. Ve většině případů jsou jeho odpovědi rozsáhlé a na odborné úrovni. Přesto se vyskytl nespočet chyb a nepřesností, tudíž je důležitá kontrola jeho odpovědí s vlastní analýzou učebnic.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis and comparison of chemistry textbooks from the Czech Republic and the UK using ChatGPT version 4.0. For this thesis, 4 textbooks from the Czech Republic and 2 from the UK for students aged 15 were selected. In the analysis of the textbooks, I focused on the quantity and difficulty of the chemical calculations, interdisciplinarity, real-life examples, experiments and incorporation of new science findings. Fullerenes and lithium-ion batteries were chosen as the new science findings. It was concluded that ChatGPT can handle the analysis of larger ensembles. It successfully searches the text for chemical calculations, interdisciplinary relationships, real-life examples or experiments. During the analysis of the calculations, it correctly identified the procedure including the unit. However, he was unable to define the exact number of some elements. Slight variations were found regarding the presence of new science findings. Just for the textbooks for secondary schools in the Czech Republic, he could not find information on fullerenes. The comparison itself focused on the quantity of pictures and chemical calculations, more emphasis on practical life and the occurrence of interdisciplinary relationships. ChatGPT also matched appropriate textbooks to the selected curricula. The quantity of figures was reported with a high error rate. It was able to decide which textbook contained the greater number of chemical calculations. However, he could only determine their exact quantity for some comparisons. He identified which textbook had more interdisciplinary relationships and also where more emphasis was placed on practical life. When selecting textbooks for the curriculum, textbooks from the Czech Republic were predominantly at the forefront. In most cases, his answers are extensive and at a professional level. Nevertheless, there were countless errors and inaccuracies, hence the importance of checking his answers with his own analysis of the textbooks.
