Alois Nebel - Comparison of the graphic novel and its film adaptation

Abstract:

The subject of this diploma thesis is the graphic novel Alois Nebel (2006) by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromír Švejdík in its book form and film adaptation (2011) by director Tomáš Luňák. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on comic in terms of its definition and development until the genesis of the graphic novel. Subsequently, it presents graphic novel as a separate genre, describing its definition and development, including contemporary Czech and German production and the rotoscoping technique, which is relevant for the subsequent analysis. The second part of the thesis introduces a comprehensive analysis of selected aspects of the graphic novel Alois Nebel - depiction of the main characters and the theme of the expulsion of the Germans from the Sudetenland after World War II - and a comparison of the use of these aspects in the graphic novel and in the film adaptation.

Abstract:

Gegenstand dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Graphic Novel Alois Nebel (2006) von Jaroslav Rudiš und Jaromír Švejdík in Buchform und deren gleichnamigen Verfilmung (2011) des Regisseurs Tomáš Luňák. Zunächst erfasst die Arbeit Comic als Genre in Bezug auf seine Definition und Entwicklung bis zur Entstehung von Graphic Novel. Anschließend wird die Graphic Novel als eigenständiges Genre vorgestellt, dessen Definition und Entwicklung, einschließlich die zeitgenössische tschechische und deutsche Produktion sowie das Rotoskopie-Verfahren, das für die folgende Analyse relevant ist. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit stellt eine umfassende Analyse ausgewählter Aspekte der Graphic Novel Alois Nebel dar - der Darstellung der Hauptfiguren und des Themas der Vertreibung der Deutschen aus dem Sudetenland nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg - und den Vergleich dieser Aspekte in der Graphic Novel mit derer Verfilmung.
