Impact of international capital on selected financial and economic indicators of companies

Abstract:

Dizertační práce se zaměřuje na zjištění dopadu přílivu přímých zahraničních investic, které jsou součásti mezinárodních obchodů na vybrané finanční a ekonomické ukazatele firem a zhodnocení spillover efektů. Cílem dizertační práce je zhodnotit dopad přímých zahraničních investic na vybrané finanční a ekonomické ukazatele firem v komparaci domácích a zahraničních firem a zjistit, jak se vyvíjely zvolené spillover efekty, míra zahraniční přítomnosti a disparita v okresech Moravskoslezského kraje v období 2008-2018. V rámci práce je použita metoda komparace a shift-share analýza. Pro zkoumání přímých a nepřímých spillover efektů jsou použity ukazatele hrubého domácího produktu, míra zahraniční přítomnosti, meziregionální disparita, regionální technologická mezera, intenzita vstřebávání, crowding-in efekt a finanční ukazatel produktivity, ziskovosti a zadluženosti. Největší míra zahraniční přítomnosti byla zjištěna v okrese Karviná, Ostrava a Frýdek-Místek. Nedochází k přibližování výkonnosti obou skupin, ale dochází k pozitivnímu vývoji efektivnosti. Nejvyšší potencionál relativní regionální technologické mezery byl zjištěn v okrese Nový Jičín, Ostrava, Frýdek-Místek. Intenzita transferu nebyla prokázána v Ostravě a největší schopnost absorpce má Frýdek Místek. Dopad přímých zahraničních investic na rentabilitu aktiv se výrazně neprojevil, ale u ukazatele rentability kapitálu se prokázala silná vazba u zahraničních firem. Vědeckým přínosem této dizertační práce je vytvoření databáze ekonomických informací a finančních a ekonomických ukazatelů ve spojitosti s přímými zahraničními investicemi na úrovni jednotlivých ekonomických subjektů celého kraje s rozdělením na domácí firmy a zahraniční. Zjištěné výsledky ukazatelů na regionální úrovni by mohly pomoci k zaplnění mezery v dosavadních výzkumech a být přínosné pro další vědecké práce.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on determining the impact of the inflow of foreign direct investment, which is part of international trade on selected financial and economic indicators of companies and the evaluation of spillover effects. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of foreign direct investment on financial and economic indicators of companies and to determine the development of foreign direct investment in connection with spillover effects in comparison between domestic companies and companies under foreign control in the districts of the Moravian-Silesian region. The method of comparison and shift-share analysis is used in this thesis. Indicators of gross value added, foreign presence rate, interregional disparity, regional technology gap, absorption intensity, crowding-in effect of foreign direct investment and financial indicators of productivity, profitability and indebtedness are used to examine direct and indirect spillover effects. The highest level of foreign presence was found in the districts of Karviná, Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek. There is no convergence of the performance of both groups, but there is a positive development of efficiency. The highest potential of RRTG was found in the district of Nový Jičín, Ostrava, Frýdek-Místek. The intensity of the transfer was not proven in Ostrava and Frýdek Místek has the greatest absorption capacity. The impact of foreign direct investment on the return on assets did not manifest itself significantly, but the return on equity indicator showed a strong link between foreign companies. The scientific benefit of this thesis is the created database of microeconomic information. The findings of indicators at regional level could help fill the gap in existing research and be beneficial for further scientific thesis.
