Summit diplomacy: a case study of The Big Three

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o summitové diplomacii Velké trojky (USA, Velká Británie a Sovětský svaz) za druhé světové války ve formě konferencí. Hlavním cílem práce je zanalyzování vlivu této diplomacie na dění na mezinárodním poli po skončení druhé světové války. Práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První kapitola je teoretickou částí práce, která pojednává o samotné summitové diplomacii a její klasifikaci. Následná kapitola je věnována Velké trojce, jejímu vzniku a historickému kontextu dané doby. Dále je pozornost soustředěna na samotné konference Velké trojky, které byly v celku tři. Následuje prozkoumání změn po skončení války, kdy se z Velké trojky stala Velká čtyřka přidáním Francie. Ta neměla dlouhého trvání a přešlo se na jednání na bilaterální úrovni, tedy jen mezi USA a Sovětským svazem, tou dobou již velkými rivaly. Aby se lépe prozkoumalo, jak diplomacie Velké trojky ovlivnila mezinárodní vztahy, je v poslední kapitole řešeno, zda summitová diplomacie je efektivním nástrojem pro řízení současných mezinárodních vztahů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the summit diplomacy of The Big Three (USA, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union) during the Second World War in the form of conferences. The main goal of this work is to analyse the influence of this diplomacy on events in the international field after the end of World War II. The work is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is a theoretical part of the work, which deals with the summit diplomacy itself and its classification. The following chapter is devoted to The Big Three, its origin and historical context of the period. Furthermore, attention is focused on the conferences of The Big Three, which were a total amount of three. The following part is an analysis of changes after the end of the war, when The Big Three became The Big Four with the addition of France. It did not last long, and negotiations were made largely on a bilateral level i.e. only between the USA and the Soviet Union, by then great rivals. To better examine how the diplomacy of The Big Three has affected international relations, the last chapter discusses whether summit diplomacy is an effective tool for managing current international relations.
