The effect of individual and group administration of the test TIM3-5 on overall results with regard to the reading ability

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na prozkoumání vlivu způsobu administrace na výsledky v Testu pro identifikaci nada-ných dětí v matematice (TIM) za současného zhodnocení vlivu schopnosti čtení na výsledek v tomto testu. Do vzorku bylo zařazeno 38 dětí ze čtvrtých tříd základních škol. Děti byly zkoumány pomocí within-subject designu v individuální a skupinové formě, přičemž skupinová administrace následovala během následují-cích dvou týdnů po administraci individuální. Individuální forma měla interakční charakter, kdy adminis-trátor žákovi předčítal jednotlivé položky. Při administraci individuální formy žáci rovněž podstoupili zkoušku čtení, která byla vyhodnocována na základě počtu přečtených slov za daný čas. Po srovnání výsled-ků ve dvou formách zadání testu nebyl odhalen signifikantní rozdíl mezi způsobem administrace testu. Sig-nifikantní rozdíl byl nalezen ve srovnání časů řešení testů v jednotlivých formách. Mezi schopností čtení a hodnocením v testu TIM nebyl nalezen oproti očekávání statisticky významný vztah. Práce rozšiřuje součas-né úzké poznání v oblasti rozdílů v individuálním a skupinovém testování a přispívá v tomto ohledu také konkrétně širší využitelnosti testu TIM. Prakticky také došlo k ověření alternativního zadání tohoto testu.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the influence of the form of administration on the results obtained in Test for identification of children gifted in mathematics (TIM) while evaluating the influence of readng ability on the test results. The sample consists of 38 children from fourth grade. The children were tested using within-subject design in individual from and consequently (within two weeks) in a group setting. The important aspect present in the individual form was the interaction between the pupil and the administrator as the ad-ministrator was reading out loud individual items. Before the individual administration, the pupils also un-derwent a reading test which was then rated on the basis of the number of words read in a given time. There was no significant difference observed between the two administration forms. There was a significant diffe-rence found comparing the time it took to complete the individual and group test. Despite the expectation, there was no significant relationship found between reading ability and TIM test results. This study extends the knowledge we have in the area of differences in individual and group testing so far and contributes in this manner specifically to the TIM test. We’ve also practically tested an alternative adminisration of this test.
