Word association and temperament

Abstract:

Temperament, jako vrozená složka osobnosti, se podílí na chování jedince celý život. Existují jisté náznaky, že rozdíly v temperamentu se mohou podílet i na rozdílech ve verbálních projevech lidí. Je tedy důležité se zabývat temperamentem i ve vztahu k asociacím. Práce je uvedena odůvodněním předpokladu existence vztahu mezi temperamentem a asociacemi. Součástí tohoto odůvodnění je i stručný přehled teorií temperamentu a odkazy na výzkumy s touto tématikou. V druhé části jsou popsány metody, které jsem použil při získávání empirického podkladu pro své hypotézy, a zdůvodňuji, proč jsem použil právě je. Je zde i popis sběru dat, jak v rámci předvýzkumu, tak i výzkumu. Z důvodu, že provedení hlavní výzkumné části se odvíjelo od výsledků předvýzkumu, jsou výsledky předvýzkumu uvedeny v této části. Třetí část popisuje výsledky výzkumu jako celku a dochází k závěru, že se nepodařilo potvrdit vztah temperamentu a asociací. Bylo nalezeno několik statisticky významných vztahů mezi temperamentem a asociacemi, ale velká většina asociací neměla statisticky významný vztah k temperamentu. Rovněž se nepodařilo nalézt rozdíl mezi temperamentem respondentů s běžnými a se vzácnými odpověďmi. V závěru práce se pokouším popsat další možnosti výzkumu s danou tématikou a shrnuji význam výsledků práce jako celku. Docházím k závěru, že možným důvodem pro nenalezení statisticky významných výsledků byl nedostatečný počet respondentů.

Abstract:

Temperament, as an inborn component of personality, influences the behaviour of an individual for the whole life. There are some indications that differences in temperament may also contribute to differences in verbal expression of people. It is therefore important to consider temperament in relation to associations. Work begins with justification of a link between temperament and associations. Part of this reasoning is a brief overview of the theory of temperament and links to research on this topic. The second section describes the methods that I have used to find empirical basis for my hypothesis together with a justification of the methods used. There is also a description of the data collection, both in the pilot study and in the research. Because the elaboration of the main part of the research was dependent on the results of preliminary research, the results of preliminary research are presented in this section. The third section describes the research as a whole, and concludes that the research could not confirm the relation of temperament and associations. I found several statistically significant relations between temperament and associations, but the vast majority of associations were not in the statistically significant relationship to temperament. As well as an attempt to find a difference in temperament between respondents with common answers and rare answers failed. In conclusion, I try to describe further research possibilities in this area and summarize the important results of the work as a whole. I conclude that a possible reason for not finding statistically significant results was the insufficient number of respondents.
