Critical analysis of selected subcultural movement and its attitude toward contemporary Western societies - Freeganism.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje fenoménu freeganismus. Práce charakterizuje roli, působení a filozofii této subkultury. Zkoumá jak se freeganismus vymezuje vůči dominantní společnosti a spotřebním návykům, jak vytváří vlastní identitu a jaké strategie k tomu využívá. Práce se dále věnuje konzumní kultuře a západním kritickým hnutím. Spotřební chování komparuje s alternativním kódem. Výstupem této práce je odpověď na otázku, jakým způsobem jednotlivé strategie, které freegané využívají, nahrazují spotřební chování kódem alternativním a jak tyto strategie naplňují ideje západních kritických hnutí.

Abstract:

My bachelor´s thesis is aimed at the phenomenon of freeganism. The role, impact and philosophy of this subculture is characterized in the thesis. Furthermore, I focused on the matter how freeganism delimits dominant society and consumer habits and which strategies it uses to create its own identity. The thesis deals with consumer culture and western critical movements and compares consumer behaviour with an alternative code. The outcome of the thesis is the response to the question how the particular strategies, that freegans use, replace consumer behaviour with the alternative code and how these strategies accomplish the ideas of western critical movements.
