Life of recidivist - case study

Abstract:

Tato práce demonstruje na případových studiích dopady výkonu trestu odnětí svobody na životní dráhy mladých lidí. K naplnění cíle byl využit kvalitativní přístup, kombinace biografií a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s osobami z okolí případu. Na základě analýzy a interpretace uvedených zdrojů práce navrhuje opatření ke zmírnění dopadů systému. Zásadním problémem je fakt, že výkon trestu odnětí svobody neplní svou funkci a nepřipravuje odsouzené na život po opuštění věznice. Jako nejefektivnější způsob řešení se jeví prevence kriminality a intervence odborníků vedoucí k odstranění či zmírnění faktorů ovlivňujících vznik delikventního chování.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis uses case studies to illustrate the impacts of imprisonment on the life paths of young people. In order to meet the aims of the thesis, the following methods were used: the qualitative approach and a combination of biographies and semi-structured interviews with people linked to the given cases. Measures for lessening the impact of the system are consequently put forward in this work and that based on the analysis and interpretation of sources. The primary problem is the fact that imprisonment does not fulfill its purpose and does not prepare prisoners for their return to life "in the real world" after finishing their sentence. The most effective means of solving this problem appears to be crime prevention and counselor intervention leading to the elimination or mitigation of factors influencing the rise of delinquent behavior.
