Get to know Pavol - documentary portrait

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce sestává ze dvou částí, praktické a teoretické. Praktickým výstupem je čtyřicetiminutová audiovizuální práce nazvaná POZNAT PAVLA, dokumentární portrét o člověku závislém na hracích automatech. Filmem se prostřednictvím zachycení Pavlova života v průběhu několika měsíců nesou dva hlavní motivy se sociální tématikou. Prvním je motiv práce v Novém prostoru, organizaci pomáhající lidem na sociálním a ekonomickém dně. Druhým pak marný boj se závislostí, kterého autor využívá k upozornění na závažný sociální fenomén současné doby. Teoretická část je rozdělena do tří hlavních celků. V úvodních dvou kapitolách autor přibližuje fungování Nového prostoru a vymezuje problematiku závislosti a gamblerství. Třetí a čtvrtá kapitola je věnována teorii dokumentárního filmu, jak z obecných hledisek akcentujících především otázky vymezení postupů a hranic dokumentárního filmu a úvahy nad jeho etickým rámcem, tak i v konkrétním pojednání o dokumenárním portrétu. Poslední reflektuje realizaci a výrazové prostředky samotné tvůrčí práce, přičemž je vystavěna na základě obvyklé linie tvořivého procesu zahrnující preprodukci, produkci a postprodukci.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis consists of two parts, the practical and theoretical. The practical outcome is a forty-minute audio-visual work called GET TO KNOW PAVEL, a documentary film about a man who is a gambling addict. Two main social themes appear in the film and they capture Pavel's life during a few months. The first is the theme of work in Nový prostor, an organization that helps people with deep social and economic problems. The other is a futile struggle with addiction, which the author uses to draw attention to a serious social phenomenon of our time. The theoretical part is divided into three main parts. In the first two chapters the author describes the function of Nový prostor and defines problems of addiction and gambling. The third and fourth chapter is devoted to the theory of documentary film, the author especially emphasizes issues of defining procedures and limits of the documentary film, he considers its ethical framework and disserts on a documentary portrait in particular. The last chapter reflects the realization and the means of expression of the creative work itself whereas it is built on the basis of the normal line of the creative process, including preproduction, production and postproduction.
