The Impact of Party Politics on the Development of Africa: The Case Study of Zimbabwe

Abstract:

Výzkum se zabýval dopadem stranické politiky na vývoj v Africe s využitím Zimbabwe jako případové studie. Cílem bylo zjistit, jaký vliv má stranická politika vývoj v zemi. Otázky ve výzkumu si kladly za cíl zjistit, kteří jsou hlavní političtí aktéři v Zimbabwe a jaké dopady má stranická politika v Zimbabwe. Výzkumný soubor tvořili akademici, vládní úředníci, zástupci občanské společnosti a poslanci parlamentu. Pro výběr souboru, který by poskytoval vypovídající data, byla použita metoda záměrného výběru. K limitacím patřila omezení zavedená kvůli epidemii koronaviru nebo povaha politiků ne vždy poskytovat přesné informace a jejich podezření ohledně záměrů výzkumných pracovníků. K některým z hlavních zjištění patřilo, že politici přijali politiku, která chrání jejich vlastní zájmy na úkor rozvoje komunit, které zastupují. Bylo doporučeno, aby byla přijata právní opatření o politických stranách, která dají parametry tomu, co strany mohou a nemohou dělat, k ochraně národa před negativními dopady stranické politiky.

Abstract:

The research looked at the impact of party politics on the development in Africa and used Zimbabwe as a case study. The aim was to find out the impact party politics has had on development and research questions wanted to find out who the main political players are in Zimbabwe and what the effects of party politics have been in Zimbabwe. The research population consisted of academics, government officials, civil society representatives and Members of parliament. Purposive sampling was used to select a sample that would provide rich data. Limitations included the restrictions placed by Corona Virus outbreak to the nature of politicians to not always give accurate information and their suspicion of researchers’ intentions. Some of the major findings where that politicians were enacting policies that safeguard that own interests at the expense of development of the communities that they represent. It was recommended that a political parties act be enacted to give parameters of what parties can do and not do to safeguard the nation from the negative impact of party politics.
