The influence of physical materials on dramaturgy of Hermína Týrlová's films

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je studie materiálové podstaty ve filmech Hermíny Týrlové. Nedílnou součástí je vymezení kontextu animátorů, jež experimentovali s materiály a obdobně jako Hermína Týrlová inovovali animační techniky. Práce si klade za cíl ověření hypotézy, že fyzické materiály ovlivňují dramaturgii, narativ i podstatu filmů. Problematika se týká zejména loutek a materiálů, ze kterých je autorka vytvořila. Pro studii byly vybrány filmy Ferda Mravenec (1944), Vzpoura hraček (1947), Uzel na kapesníku (1958), Vlněná pohádka (1964) a Korálková pohádka (1968). Struktura analýz je postavena na sérii otázek vycházejících z kapitoly knihy Marie Benešové, jež se stala metodologickou oporou práce. Na jejich základě došlo k prokázání vlivu vlastností materiálů nejen na výtvarný i dramaturgický koncept, ale také na možnosti a limity materiálových struktur při animaci.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor's thesis is a study of the principle of materials in the movies of Hermína Týrlová. The integral part is the context definition of the animators themselves. They conducted all the experiments themselves and, just like Hermína Týrlová, they innovated many animation techniques. The thesis sets a goal of verifying the hypothesis, that real physical materials affect the dramaturgy, narrative and even the essence of the movies they are used in. The main subject of the thesis is mostly based around the puppets and the materials they were made off. Movies that were picked for the study list: Ferda Mravenec (1944), Vzpoura hraček (1947), Uzel na kapesníku (1958), Vlněná pohádka (1964), Korálkova pohádka (1968). The structure of analyzes are built upon a series of questions from a chapter of Marie Benešová´s book. Which then became the methodological basis of the thesis. Based on these questions, not only the influence of material properties on the artistic and dramaturgical concept, but also the possibilities and limits of material structures used in animation.
