Abstract:

The diploma thesis studies the factors that influence the export performance of China’s tea industry, which holds a leading position in the global tea market. The theoretical section discusses the historical development of the tea trade, the role of traditional and modern trade routes, and relevant economies theories. It also explores the market structure and trade policies shaping China’s tea trade in the international market. The practical section of the thesis focuses on the determinants that have an impact on the export value of Chinese tea. A descriptive and trend analysis of tea production, trade volumes, and pricing was presented based on time series data from 2004 to 2023. Furthermore, the study employed one-equation econometric model where the endogenous variable is the tea export value, and the exogenous variables are export price per tonne, exchange rate, GDP growth, and the presence of the COVID-19. The results indicated that the export price per tonne and exchange rate were statistically significant, while GDP growth and the presence of COVID-19 where statistically insignificant in relation to China’s tea export value.
