Patellofemoral syndrome: comparison between McConnell Taping Technique and the Kinesio Taping Method.

Abstract:

McConnell Taping Tecnique and Kinesio Taping Method. Key Words: patel al lofemoral syndrome, pain, Kinesio taping, McConnell tape Patellofemoral syndrome is one of the many orthopaedic issues more commonly found in the knee-joint. This dysfunction is characterized by pain in the fore knee. It affects femoral and patellar cartilage due to overfriction provoked by flexo-extension of this joint under certain conditions. This condition occurs mainly in women and atletes whose sport requires oveloading of the joint within repeated flexions of the knee. Patellofemoral syndrome takes place when the direction of the vector force of the quadriceps femoris muscle is oblique to the distal insertion of patellar joint. Consequentely these two forces create a lateral net-force vector determining predisposition to patella lateralization. The body structures providing patella stability are the vastus melialis muscle, carrying out medial and superior patella traction with its 55° insertion angle, the medial retinaculum and the side edge of femoral ginglimus. When these structures don?t work properly cartilage starts wearing out and pain symptoms occur. This trend is more frequent in women as a consequence of a widening of Q angle (angle between a line drawn from fore upper spine bone to the centre of patella and a line drawn from the process of tibia to the centre of patella). This occurrence exaggerates patella lateralization during flesso-extension movements of the knee. In this case patellar taping make patellar medialization possible reducing femor-patellar external pressure and pain during sport activity.

Parole chiave: femoro-rotulea, dolore, Kinesio taping, McConnell tape La sindrome femoro-rotulea č una delle problematiche di interesse ortopedico piů comunemente riscontrate nell'articolazione del ginocchio. E' una patologia, caratterizzata da una sensazione dolorosa percepita nella parte anteriore del ginocchio, che interessa la cartilagine rotulea e femorale per l'eccessivo attrito che, in determinate condizioni, si determina durante la flesso-estensione di questa articolazione. Questa condizione colpisce prevalentemente le donne e gli sportivi, specialmente negli sport che sovraccaricano l'articolazione con flessioni ripetute del ginocchio. La sindrome femoro-rotulea si genera perché la direzione del vettore forza del muscolo quadricipite č obliqua rispetto all'inserzione distale del legamento rotuleo. Di conseguenza queste due forze hanno come risultante un vettore diretto lateralmente, determinando una predisposizione alla lateralizzazione della rotula.
