"Newromancer": Cyberspace and Utopia

Abstract:

Ačkoliv mnozí (ve světle současných událostí společnosti v přerodu a zdánlivého chaosu) prohlásili Utopii za mrtvou, neuchopitelný tok nul a jedniček v silikonových kabelech zahlcujících nás ze všech stran evokuje pravý opak. Tato práce oslavuje utopické snahy jako jasný článek na cestě k pokroku lidské zkušenosti. Daleko od nihilistické, bezútěšné cyberpunkové vize budoucnosti, snaží se poskytnout kaleidoskopický portrét potenciálu lidského pokroku v kyberprostoru právě ve výstavbě. Tato práce oslavuje kyberspotor jako "negeografické", virtuální hřistě plně vybavené pro utopické snahy budoucnosti. Je inspirovaná halucinogenním prostorem matrixu prostupijího knihu Neuromancera od Williama Gibsona a rozpracovává zdánlivě nekonečné možnosti a vitálnost utopických vyhlídek v kyberiánském dvacátem prvním století. Práce je rozdělěna do tří částí a postupuje od velmi teoretického základu utopismu v Části první ke konkrétnímu a aplikovanému v Části druhé a třetí jako synergii utopie a kyber prostoru.

Abstract:

Although many (in the light of the present events of society in transition and seeming chaos) have argued that Utopia is dead, the incomprehensible stream of zeros and ones in the silicon wires flooding all around us echoes the very opposite. This work celebrates utopian endeavors as a clear link to progress on the scale of human experience. Far from the nihilistic, dismal cyberpunk vision of the future, it tries to provide a kaleidoscopic portrayal of the potential of human progress in the cyberspace realm now in the making. This work celebrates cyberspace as a "non-geographical", virtual playground fully equipped for utopian endeavours of the future. It is inspired by the hallucinogenic void of matrix permeating William Gibson’s Neuromancer and elaborates on the seemingly endless possibilities and vitality of utopian prospects in the cyberian twenty-first century. The work is divided into three parts, proceeding from the very theoretical background of utopianism in Part One toward the specific and applied in Parts Two and Three as a synergy of utopia and cyberspace.
