Abschaum. On translation of the Feridun Zaimoglus novel into Czech.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the translation of three short stories from the book “Abschaum” (1997) by the German writing author of Turkish origin Feridun Zaimoglu. The work is characterised by a specific use of a language, that is essentially a transcript of speech. It contains slang and expressive terms, vulgarisms, expressions taken from English and phrases in Turkish. The thesis focuses mainly on the translation of these substandard expressions, furthermore on the problems of the third language and third culture in translation. The work also deals with the translation of chosen proper nouns and maintenance of the original text graphic equivalence. The main aim of this thesis is to demonstrate the adequate translation of substandard expressions on the examples of these three short stories.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá překladem tří povídek z knihy Abschaum (1997), kterou napsal německy píšící autor tureckého původu Feridun Zaimoglu. Toto dílo se vyznačuje specifickým užitím jazyka, který je v podstatě přepisem mluveného projevu, obsahuje slangové a expresivní výrazy, vulgarismy, výrazy přejaté z angličtiny a fráze v turečtině. Práce se soustředí zejména na překlad těchto substandardních výrazů, dále pak na problematiku třetího jazyka a třetí kultury při překladu. Práce se dále zabývá překladem vybraných vlastních jmen a zachováním grafické ekvivalence výchozího textu. Práce si klade za cíl ukázat na příkladech z těchto tří povídek, jak adekvátně přeložit substandardní výrazy.
