Perception of climate change by students at high schools of the Zlínský and Olomoucký regions

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá percepcí změny klimatu na středních školách ve Zlínském a Olomouckém kraji. Klade si za cíl pomocí dotazníkového šetření zhodnotit výuku změny klimatu, postoje žáků směrem k tomuto tématu a jeho dopadům, a jejich ochotu podílet se na adaptaci a mitigaci současných i budoucích projevů změny klimatu. V rešeršní části je představena literatura věnující se změně klimatu, která je v dalších kapitolách diskutována a porovnávána s výsledky samotné práce. Výzkumu pomocí dotazníkového šetření předchází charakteristika zkoumaných krajů a představení metodiky. Výsledky prokázaly, že informace o změně klimatu žáci primárně nezískávají prostřednictvím středoškolského vzdělávání, ale skrze sociální sítě. Téma je pro žáky důležité a většina z nich je ochotná se v určité míře uskromnit, aby zmírnila dopady tohoto jevu. Spousta žáků se snaží o zmírnění svých příspěvků ke změně klimatu již nyní a své postoje k berou jako kritérium pro jejich volební preference. Práce nabízí větší vhled do toho, jakým způsobem se změna klimatu na středních školách vyučuje a zároveň jaké postoje k ní žáci mají nejen v otázce vzdělávání.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the perception of climate change in secondary schools in the Zlín and Olomouc regions. Through a questionnaire survey, it aims to evaluate the teaching of climate change, students' attitudes towards this topic and its impacts, and their willingness to participate in adaptation and mitigation measures of recent and future climate change. The research section presents the literature on climate change, which is discussed in the following chapters and compared with the results of the thesis itself. The research using a questionnaire survey is preceded by a description of the regions studied and an introduction to the methodology. The results showed that students do not primarily obtain information about climate change through secondary education, but through social networks. The topic is important to students and most of them are willing to take some degree of mitigation measures. Many students are already trying to mitigate their contributions to climate change and take their attitudes towards the phenomenon as a criterion for their electoral preferences. This thesis offers greater insight into how climate change is taught in secondary schools, as well as students' attitudes towards the phenomenon beyond education.
