Pupil's libraries of town Přerov Czech schools and their censorship during the Austro-Hungarian period

Abstract:

Tato práce popisuje průběh cenzury neboli revize žákovských knihoven obecných a měšťanských škol v době Rakouska-Uherska (1867–1918). Tyto revize byly nařízeny ministerstvem kultu a vyučování, poprvé v roce 1875, poté v roce 1885 a naposledy v době 1. světové války (1915). Průběh revizí je přiblížen na příkladu škol města Přerova. Výnosy ministerstva kultu a vyučování, korespondence školních úřadů a škol a seznamy knih vyřazených ze žákovských knihoven těchto škol ukazují, jak stát dohlížel na četbu dětí ve školách.

Abstract:

This thesis describes the process of censorship (also called revision) of pupil’s libraries of elementary and lower secondary schools during the Austro-Hungarian period (1867 – 1918). These revisions were ordered by the Ministry of Cultus and Instruction, for the first time in the year 1875, then in the year 1885, and last time during World War I. (1915). The revisions process is shown on town Přerov schools example. The Ministry of Cultus and Instruction proceeds, correspondence between school authorities and town Přerov schools and lists of books eliminated from pupil’s libraries of these schools reflect how children´s reading at schools was overseen by the state.
