Impacts of parental divorce: Divorce and marriage through the eyes of children

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o pozdních dopadech rodičovského rozvodu na děti, konkrétněji ve způsobu, jak se děti vyrovnávaly s rozvodem rodičů a jaké významy připisují této zkušenosti. Práce se dále zaměřuje na názory a postoje k manželství, a jak rozvod rodičů ovlivnil tyto postoje a smýšlení dětí o manželství. Cílem práce je porovnat názory a postoje k manželství dospělých dětí z rozvedených rodin a dospělých dětí z úplných rodin. Srovnání těchto postojů umožňuje porozumět tomu, zda má rozvod rodičů vliv na postoje dospělých dětí týkající se manželství. Struktura práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. Teoretická část představuje souhrn nejčastějších dopadů rozvodu na děti, a popis faktorů zprostředkovávající dopad rozvodu. Empirická část obsahuje vlastní kvalitativní výzkum vycházející z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, které byly provedeny s dospělými dětmi z rozvedených rodin a úplných rodin.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis has dealt with the late impacts of parental divorce on children; specifically it has focused on how children cope with divorce and what meanings are assigned to this experience. Furthermore, the thesis has examined opinions and attitudes of children from divorced families towards marriage and how their thinking about marriage was impacted by the parental divorce. Consequently their opinions and attitudes were compared to children from two-parent families, which was the goal of my work. This comparison has allowed me to understand whether the parental divorce has an impact on the attitudes towards the marriage. The structure of thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part presents a summary of the most common impacts of divorce and description of several factors that mediate the impact. The empirical part includes own qualitative research which is based on the semi-structured interviews which are made with children from divorced and two-parent families.
