Evaluation of the Vlněna Office Center building on the groundwater flow

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo vytvoření matematického modelu proudění podzemních vod v souvislosti s novou výstavbou kancelářských budov v Brně. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o stavbu s podzemními podlažími, bylo nutné ověřit možnosti vzdutí hladiny na nátokové straně stavby. Z tohoto důvodu bylo nutné posoudit, zdali by nemohlo dojít k ohrožení suterénních částí okolních budov. Součástí výstavby byly i liniové stavební prvky, které byly situovány po obvodu budovy. Tyto prvky byly zapuštěny až do nepropustného podloží neogenních jílů. Jde o pilotovou stěnu a pažící stěny. Vliv stavby na podzemní vody byl posouzen prostřednictvím numerického modelu proudění. Modelem bylo identifikováno maximální vzdutí hladiny na nátokové straně stavby budovy odpovídající +15 cm při normálních stavech hladin a vzdutí +21 cm při vyšších stavech hladin. Ohrožení okolních suterénů by tedy nastalo v situaci, kdy by při zjištěných hloubkách hladiny podzemních vod byla kóta jejich založení již v hloubce 3 m (případně i méně – v dosahu kapilárního pásma) pod povrchem terénu.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis was to create a mathematical model of the groundwater flow related to the development of the new office center in Brno. Due to the structure of the buildings with the underground floors, there was a possibility of water-level rise on the inflow side. Thus, it was crucial to assess whether the basements of the surrounding buildings can be endangered by flooding. Projection of the linear construction features around the perimeter of the buildings was also the part of the development. These features – a pilot wall and bracing wall - were embedded into impermeable basement composed of Neogene clays. To assess the impact of buildings on groundwater levels, the numerical model based on Modflow was developed. Processing Modflow as graphical user interface was applied. The results of the numerical modelling suggest the maximal groundwater level raise of 15 cm in a normal water level conditions and 21 cm in a high-water level conditions. Reflecting the simulated depth of groundwater table under the ground surface – the endangerment of the surrounding basement can occur in the parts where the depth of the building basements is approximately at 3 meters under the ground surface. If a capillary fringe is well developed, the depth endangered by wetting can be even lower than 3 m.
