Development of urbanization processes and their demographic impacts and consequences in the distribution of the population in the Czech Republic from 1869 to 2019

Abstract:

Tato práce řeší vliv urbanizačních procesů na vývoj a rozmístění obyvatelstva České republiky. Zpracovává historické determinanty na populační vývoj, zvláštní pozornost je věnována cenzovým letům a dále roku 2019. Převážná většina dat pochází z Historického lexikonu obcí České republiky 1869–2011.K řešení byly použity především grafické metody. Ke zhodnocení koncentrace zalidnění slouží Lorenzův oblouk (resp. Giniho koeficient), diference mezi skutečnou a ideální velikostí obcí je řešena pomocí Zipfova pravidla, populační změny z regionálního pohledu jsou posuzovány podle Webbovy typologie. Zvolená problematika kvalifikační práce je rovněž ilustrována za pomoci série kartogramů (případně kartodiagramů). Ty byly vykresleny prostřednictvím aplikace ArcMap ze systému ArcGIS Desktop. Hlavním výsledkem práce je popis populačního vývoje ve statisticky klíčových letech a dále zhodnocení změny mezi referenčními roky. Regionální pohled na populační vývoj umožnil sledovat posuny populačního středu a změny v hustotě zalidnění z pohledu obcí. Koncentrace obyvatelstva druhé poloviny 19. století neseznávala výrazných změn. Naopak od 20. století došlo vlivem urbanizačních procesů a historických k signifikantní změně rozmístění obyvatelstva. Nejprve pokračovaly koncentrační procesy zrychlujícím se tempem, od konce minulého století se začal projevovat vliv suburbanizace vyznačující se dekoncentračními procesy rozmístění obyvatelstva. Hustota rozmístění obcí vzrostla zejména v zázemí Prahy a Brna a dále ve Středočeském kraji podél silniční infrastruktury směrem na významná sídla.

Abstract:

The purpose if this theses term is to outline a link between urbanization processes and the development and distribution of population of the Czech Republic. It processes historical determinants of population development, special attention is paid to the census years and then to year 2019. The vast majority of data come from the Historical Lexicon of Municipalities of the Czech Republic 1869–2011.Graphical methods were mainly used for the solution. The Lorenz arc (or Gini coefficient) is used to evaluate the population concentration, the difference between the actual and ideal size of municipalities is solved using Zipf's rule, population changes from a regional point of view are assessed according to Webb's typology. The chosen issue of the qualification thesis is also illustrated with the help of a series of cartograms (or cartodiagrams). These were drawn using ArcMap from ArcGIS Desktop. The main result of the theses is a description of population development in relevant years and an evaluation of the change between reference years. The regional scale of population development made it possible to monitor shifts of the population center, as well as changes in population density from the point of view of municipalities. The population concentration of the second half of the 19th century did not show significant changes. On the contrary, since the 20th century, there has been a significant change in the distribution of the population due to urbanization and historical processes. At first, the concentration processes continued at an accelerating pace; from the end of the last century, the influence of suburbanization, characterized by deconcentration processes of population distribution, began to manifest itself. The density of the distribution of municipalities increased especially in the hinterland of Prague and Brno and further in the Central Bohemian Region along the road infrastructure towards important settlements.
