The relationship to the place we live in: A comparation between 4th and 5th grades in small and fully organized elementary schools.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vztah žáků 4. a 5. tříd k místu, ve kterém žijí a studují v rámci vzdělávacího přístupu Místně zakotveného učení. Cílem práce je prozkoumat, zda se žáci zajímají o místo, ve kterém žijí, zda ho znají a jestli existuje rozdíl mezi žáky žijícími na venkově a ve městech. V práci jsou porovnávány děti z malotřídních a plně organizovaných základních škol. Práce je rozdělena do několika částí, které postupně zkoumají tuto problematiku. Úvodní část popisuje rámec celého výzkumu a jsou zde i cíle a otázky, na které se tato diplomová práce pokusí odpovědět. V první teoretické části se věnujeme environmentální výchově jako nejdůležitějšímu tématu, které všechny ostatní témata spojuje. Poté zkoumáme vztah k přírodě a pro nás důležitějšímu vztahu k místu u dětí na prvním stupni. Dále je popsán vzdělávací přístup místně zakotveného učení, jeho cíle, principy a východiska. Na konec teoretické části jsou popsány specifika malotřídních škol a jejich rozdíly oproti těm plně organizovanými. Druhá praktická část se věnuje výzkumu, pro který byla zvolena metoda dotazníkového šetření. Metodologie výzkumného šetření je detailně popsána a následně jsou prezentovány výsledky tohoto šetření. Z výsledků bylo zjištěno, že vztah žáků k místu je poměrně silný, na rozdíl od průměrných hodnot vědomostí o místu, které se ukázali jako velmi nízké. Průměrný vztah k místu je ve velkých školách mírně vyšší než v malotřídních školách a průměrné vědomosti o místě jsou také vyšší ve velkých školách ve srovnání s malotřídními školami. Celkově lze říci, že velikost školy může mít omezený vliv na vztah k místu a vědomosti o místě, přičemž tento vliv je spíše malý.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on examining the relationship of 4th and 5th-grade students to the place where they live and study within the framework of the Locally Situated Learning educational approach. The aim of the thesis is to explore whether students are interested in the place they live, whether they are familiar with it, and whether there are differences between students living in rural and urban areas. The thesis also compares children from small-sized and fully organized primary schools. The thesis is divided into several parts, each gradually exploring this issue. The introductory part describes the framework of the entire research, presenting the goals and questions that the thesis seeks to answer. In the first theoretical part, the author examines environmental education as the most important theme linking all other topics. Subsequently, they investigate the relationship with nature and the more important relationship with the place among children in the first grade. Furthermore, the thesis describes the educational approach of locally situated learning, its goals, principles, and starting points. The specificities of small-sized schools and their differences from fully organized ones are also outlined at the end of the theoretical part. The second practical part focuses on research, for which the method of questionnaire survey was chosen. The methodology of the research survey is described in detail, followed by the presentation of the survey results. From the results, it was found that the relationship of students to the place is relatively high, unlike the average values of knowledge about the place, which turned out to be very limited. The average relationship to the place is slightly higher in large schools than in small-sized schools, and the average knowledge about the place is also higher in large schools compared to small-sized ones. Overall, it can be said that the size of the school may have a limited impact on the relationship with and knowledge about the place, with this impact being rather small.
