Motivation to study psychology at the university

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se dělí na část teoretickou a výzkumnou. Teoretická část obsahuje kapitolu Motivace a kapitolu Student a vzdělávání. Kapitola Motivace pojednává o definici motivace, pojetí a potřebách. Kapitola Student a vzdělávání se zaměřuje na vývojová období člověka v rámci vzdělávání a studia. V kapitole jsou uvedeny některé výzkumy, které souvisejí s motivací ke studiu. Cílem práce je deskripce hlavních motivů studentů k volbě studijního bakalářského oboru psychologie na vysokých školách v České republice. Součástí práce je empirický výzkum s využitím písemného dotazníku vlastní konstrukce zjišťujícího důvody volby daného studijního oboru. Soubor zkoumaných osob je tvořen studenty psychologie z různých vysokých škol v České republice. Ukázalo se, že nejdůležitější důvody studia psychologie jsou zájem o obor, poznání druhých lidí a pomáhání druhým lidem. Některé zajímavé souvislosti byly nalezeny mezi vnitřní motivací, důležitostí oboru a trvalostí zájmu.

Abstract:

This thesis is divided into two sections: the theoretical section and the research section. The theoretical section contains the chapters Motivation, and Student and Education. The Chapter Motivation is concerned with the definition of motivation, its conception and requirements. The Chapter Student and Education deals with developmental periods of a person in terms of education. The chapter also lists some studies relating to motivation for studying. The goal of the study is to outline students' main motivation for choosing the field of psychology as their bachelor education in the Czech Republic. The work employs empirical research into the motives for choosing the field using a manually constructed questionnaire. The sample consisted of Czech psychology students from various universities. The study revealed that the most substantial reasons for studying psychology are personal interest, understanding of other people and the desire to help them. Connections of interest were found between intrinsic motivation, the importance of the field and interest longevity.
