Selected methods of creative accounting and their utilization in practice

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je klasifikovat metody kreativního účetnictví na základě především zahraničních zdrojů a ověřit jejich využívání v praxi v České republice. Praktická část práce se skládá nejprve z dotazníkového průzkumu, který se zaměřuje na účetní, controllery, finanční manažery a další finanční profese. Dále navazuje rozbor účetních výkazů vybraných společností, kde je analyzován vývoj cashflow ve vztahu k hrubému zisku. Poslední část obsahuje výpočet M-skóre podle modelu prof. Beneishe, které měří pravděpodobnost manipulace účetních závěrek.Z provedeného průzkumu i analýzy vyplývá, že nejširší uplatnění nachází volba odpisové a oceňovací metody, využívání dohadných položek a časového rozlišení, leasingového financování nebo poskytování půjček mezi spřízněnými osobami. Obecně se techniky zaměřují více na položky výsledovky a cashflow a méně na rozvahové položky. S metodami se lze setkat nejpravděpodobněji v obchodních společnostech s obratem nad 5 miliard Kč a nejméně u společností ze sektoru služeb s obratem do 200 milionů Kč. Pozitivně vnímá kreativní účetnictví 36 % respondentů a negativně 42 %.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to classify creative accounting methods on the basis of mainly foreign literature sources and to prove their application in practice in the Czech Republic. The practical part consists of a questionnaire survey which targets at accountants, controllers, CFOs and other financial professionals. Subsequently, the analysis of financial statements of selected companies is carried out, in which the development of cashflow in relation to earnings before taxes (EBT) is evaluated. The last part contains the calculation of M score according to the model of professor Beneish which measures the probability of manipulation of financial reports.From the carried-out survey and analysis results that the choice of depreciation and amortization methods, acrualls, leasing financing or loans among related individuals are of the broadest usage. Generally speaking, the techniques focus more on the items of income statement and cashflow and less on on-balance-sheet items. Methods can be found most probably at companies with turnover higher than 5 billion CZK and least probably at companies focusing on services with turnover to 200 million CZK. Creative accounting is perceived positively by 36 % of respondents and negatively by 42 % of respondents.
