Validity of human body circumference measurements by BIA method

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, zda jsou obvodové rozměry lidského těla naměřené metodou bioelektrické impedanční analýzy (BIA) pomocí analyzátoru InBody 770 dostatečně validní. Dále pak, zda jsou výsledné hodnoty WHR indexu a WHtR indexu shodné při antropometrickém měření a při měření metodou BIA. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 238 probandů (189 mužů a 49 žen) v adolescentním a dospělém věku. K měření byl použit Stadiometr InBody 370 BSM, analyzátor InBody 770 a pásová míra Őssur. Data byla zpracována pro celkový soubor, a zvlášť pro soubor všech žen a pro soubor mužů do 20 let. Pro testy normality byly použity Shapiro-Wilkův test a Kolmogorovův-Smirnovův test. Pro výpočet validity metody BIA byly použity párový t-test a Wilcoxonův párový test. Pro posouzení věcné významnosti bylo použito Cohenovo d (Effect of Size) a velikost efektu r pro Wilcoxonův test. Pro posouzení empirické validity byl vypočítán také korelační koeficient a korelační test, konkrétně Pearsonův korelační koeficient pro data s normálním rozdělením a Spearmanův korelační koeficient pro ostatní případy. Z výsledků analýzy dat je patrné, že existují statisticky významné rozdíly mezi hodnotami obvodů těla měřenými analyzátorem InBody 770 a antropometrickou metodou. Toto platí pro všechny zkoumané obvody těla a pro obě pohlaví. Z výsledků je také patrné, že výsledky pro sledované muže a sledované ženy se zcela zásadně liší.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the circumferential dimensions of the human body measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) using the InBody 770 analyzer are sufficiently valid. Furthermore, whether the resulting values of WHR index and WHtR index are the same in anthropometric and BIA measurements. 238 probands (189 males and 49 females) of adolescent and adult age participated in the study. The InBody 370 BSM stadiometer, the InBody 770 analyzer and the Őssur waist measure were used for the measurements. Data were processed for the total population, and separately for the population of all women and for the population of men under 20 years of age. Shapiro-Wilk test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test were used for normality tests. Paired t-test and Wilcoxon paired test were used to calculate the validity of the BIA method. Cohen's d (Effect of Size) and effect size r for the Wilcoxon test were used to assess substantive significance. Correlation coefficient and correlation test were also calculated to assess empirical validity, namely Pearson's correlation coefficient for data with normal distribution and Spearman's correlation coefficient for other cases. The results of the data analysis show that there are statistically significant differences between the body circumference values measured by the InBody 770 analyzer and the anthropometric method. This is true for all body circuits examined and for both sexes. It is also clear from the results that the results for the male and female subjects are quite different.
