Professional Identity of Montessori School Teachers

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce se zabývá profesní identitou učitelů Montessori škol v českém kontextu. Cílem práce je popsat podoby profesní identity pedagoga Montessori školy konstruované skrze osobní narativy pedagogů a skrze jejich interakci se žáky. Absence podrobných výzkumů v této oblasti vedly k specifickému zaměření na Montessori učitele. V teoretické části práce autor mapuje koncept profesní identity, který zasazuje do širšího teoretického rámce identity. Popisuje dynamičnost a mnohovrstevnatost zkoumaného konceptu a předkládá dosavadní výzkumy zabývající se jak formováním, tak snahou o definici profesní identity. Dále podrobně rozebírá Montessori pedagogiku, včetně jejích základních principů a kontextu v českém vzdělávacím systému. Metodologicky se opírá o kvalitativní přístup, v konstrukci výzkumných nástrojů i analýze výzkumných dat pak využívá prvků interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. V empirické části práce prezentuje výsledky výzkumu, které ukazují různorodost profesních identit učitelů Montessori škol i specifické faktory při jejím formování a přináší nové poznatky o profesní identitě učitelů v kontextu Montessori pedagogiky. Práci uzavírá diskuse o výsledcích a jejich významu pro další výzkum v dané oblasti.

Abstract:

The presented dissertation deals with the professional identity of Montessori school teachers in the Czech context. The aim of the work is to describe the forms of professional identity of Montessori school teachers constructed through their personal narratives and reflected interactions with students. The absence of detailed research in this area has led to a specific focus on Montessori teachers. In the theoretical part of the work, the author maps the concept of professional identity, situating it within a broader theoretical framework of identity. We describe the dynamics and multi-layered nature of the examined concept and present previous research addressing both the formation and attempts to define professional identity. Furthermore, we extensively analyze Montessori pedagogy, including its fundamental principles and its context within the Czech educational system. Methodologically, we rely on a qualitative approach, utilizing elements of interpretative phenomenological analysis in the construction of research tools and the analysis of research data. In the empirical part of the work, we present the results of the research, which demonstrate the diversity of professional identities among Montessori school teachers as well as specific factors influencing its formation, bringing new insights into the professional identity of teachers in the context of Montessori pedagogy. The work concludes with a discussion of the results and their significance for further research in the field.
