Anotácia:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo prozkoumat, v jakých oblastech byly osobní návyky a také životní styl českých studentů ovlivněn jejich pobytem ve Spojených státech amerických. Cestovatelé se museli přizpůsobit neznámé kultuře a prostředí nejen během jejich příchodu do cizí země, ale také během jejich opětovnému návratu zpět do domácí kultury, jakmile se zvládli adaptovat na nově přijatou kulturu. Museli čelit různým faktorům, které se objevují při kontaktu s neznámým prostředím a kulturou. Jednalo se o kulturní šok a reverzní kulturní šok. Diplomová páce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části: teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část se zabývá definicí kultury, kulturních a osobních hodnot a také tématem identity. Dále jsou představeny faktory, které mají vliv na osobní hodnoty – jedná se o kulturní šok a reverzní kulturní šok. V poslední kapitole následuje porovnání domácí a cizí kultury. Praktická část je zaměřena na výzkum, který byl vyvinut autorem této práce, a jeho výsledky.

Abstract:

The purpose of this master thesis is to examine in what areas have been personal habits as well as lifestyle of Czech students influenced by their stay in the United States of America. The sojourners had to identify themselves with the unknown culture and environment not only upon their arrival in a foreign country but also upon their re-entry to home culture, once they got used to the newly encountered culture. They had to cope with different factors occurring while being confronted with unknown culture and environment, which are culture shock (CS) and reverse culture shock (RCS). Such experience must unavoidably cause change of their personal habits and ways of life. The diploma thesis is divided into two main parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is concerned with definitions of culture, cultural and personal values as well as identity. Furthermore, factors influencing personal values of sojourners are introduced – culture shock and reverse culture shock. Lastly, comparison of home and host country follows. The practical part is focused on research which has been carried out by the author of this thesis and its results.
