Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá rozšírením existujúceho užívateľského rozrhnia bio-portal, jednoduchej webovej aplikácie, ktorá umožňuje spúšťanie virtuálnych strojov. S rastúcim počtom výskumných skupín, ktoré používajú tento portál, sa portál stal tažko udžiavateľným. Konfigurácie virtuálnych strojov boli natvrdo zapísané v zdrojovom kóde a taktiež nebolo podporované spúštanie viacerých strojov súčasne v tzv. clustroch. K vyriešeniu týchto problémov bola použitá technológia Terraform, ktorá sa používa na popis a nasadenie cloudovej infraštruktúry. Vďaka tomuto rozšíreniu môže bio-portal poskytovať širokú škálu typov virtuálnych strojov, ktorých konfiguračné súbory sú v samostatných súboroch a nie natvrdo zapísané v zdrojovom kóde. Terraform taktiež pridáva podporu clustrov. Výsledná aplikácia pozostávajúca z pôvodného back endu, tohto rozšírenia a nového front endu bude užívateľom poskytovať príjemnejšie používateľské prostredie než pôvodná verzia. Okrem toho výrazne zjednoduší pridávanie nových konfigurácii.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on extending the existing user interface called bio-portal, a simple web application enabling users to launch virtual machines. With a growing number of research groups using this portal, the previous solution became hard to maintain. These virtual machines' configuration was hardwired in the code and did not support launching multiple virtual machines in clusters. Terraform, a technology used to describe and deploy cloud infrastructure was used to solve those problems. Thanks to the extension, bio-portal can provide many different types of virtual machines that are easy to manage, as they are in separate files and not hardwired in the portal. Besides that, it adds support for clusters. The final product consisting of the existing back end, this extension, and the new front end shall provide a much more pleasant user experience than the previous version. In addition to that, it will make the process of adding new virtual machine configurations more effortless.
