Polychlorované bifenyly jsou látky velmi nebezpečné pro životní prosředí, tak i pro člověka. Původně byly pro jejich dobré vlastnosti používány v řadě technologických oborů, avšak zjištění jejich toxicity znamenalo v jejich vývoji zásadní zlom.
