Computer mediated interpersonal communication

Abstract:

V této práci se zabývám počítačově mediovanou interpersonální komunikací z pohledu uživatele. Za pomoci hloubkových rozhovorů a jejich následné analýzy zkoumám situace, kdy uživatelé vytvářejí pluralitu offline a online a jak se tato pluralita promítá do užití nových médií. Teoreticky je práce ukotvena v širším kyberkulturním diskurzu týkajícího se reflexe nových médií, vychází a navazuje na myšlenky formulované v textu Dona Slatera Social Relationships and Identity Online and Offline. Zjištění této práce korespondují se Slaterovým textem: pluralita offline a online světa je vytvářena vědomě, uživatelé se rozhodují v závislosti na situaci, zda-li potenciál média (virtualita, prostorovost apod.) využijí nebo ne. Nelze říct, že takto vytvořený dualismus offline a online světa má jednoznačně negativní nebo pozitivní vliv na svět, ve kterém se uživatelé pohybují. Internet je svými uživateli vnímán jednak jako komplexní nástroj užívaný v socio-kulturním kontextu, stejně tak i jako svébytný, odděleně fungující, sociální prostor.

Abstract:

In this study I concern myself with comptuer mediated interpersonal communication, percieved from the viewpoint of the user. Using in-depth interviews and grounded theory analysis I examine situations where the user himself creates the plurality of online and offline and how this plurality affects the usage of new media, more accurately the internet. A broader cybercultural discourse serves as the theoretical basis for my work, as does Don Slater's text Social Relationships and Identity Online and Offline. The findings of this work correspond with Slater's text: the plurality of online and offline is created conciously by the user himself, the user decides whether or not to utilize the media's various potentials (virtuality, spatiality etc.) accordingly to the specific situation. The impact of this user-made dualism on the world ,which the user is living in, is neither positive or negative. Internet is considered to be both a complex tool, used in the context of the world we live in, and an isolated social space.
