The Czech Translation of Hašeks "The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Svejk During the World War"

Abstract:

The main objective of this master´s thesis, titled "The Translation Critique of the Book "The Good Soldier Švejk"" is to provide a factual and comprehensive overview of the german translation of one of the most popular works in Czech literature. In the first chapter the thesis focuses on introducing Katharina Reiß's translation critique model, according to which criticism is performed in this work. Another chapter concentrates on the life of Jaroslav Hašek and briefly presents the contents of the book "The Good Soldier Švejk" together with the main character of the novel. The practical part of the thesis compares the Czech original of the book with a German translation from Grete Reiner and comments on the individual differences that arose during the translation. The last chapter of the thesis deals with the general evaluation of the quality of the translation and summarizes the results from the practical part.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce s názvem "Kritika překladu knihy "Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka"" je podat věcný a ucelený pohled na německý překlad jednoho z nejznámějších děl české literatury. V první kapitole se práce zaměřuje na představení modelu kritiky překladu od Kathariny Reißové, podle kterého je kritika v této práci prováděna. Další kapitola se zabývá životem Jaroslava Haška a krátce představuje obsah knihy "Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka za světové války" společně s hlavní postavou románu. V praktické části práce je srovnáván český originál knihy s německým překladem od Grety Reinerové a komentují se jednotlivé odlišnosti, které při překladu vznikly. Poslední kapitola práce se pak věnuje obecnému zhodnocení kvality překladu a jsou v ní shrnuty výsledky zkoumání z praktické části.
