Durability of solid wood after the application of engraving

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci je řešena problematika trvanlivosti povrchu masivního smrkového a bukového dřeva po aplikaci gravírování. V teoretické části je rozvedena problematika dřeva, jakožto obnovitelného materiálu a různé druhy jeho degradace, vlivem povětrnostních faktorů, kterým je tento materiál vystaven při expozici v exteriéru. Další bod je zaměřený na povrchovou úpravu dřeva a nátěrové systémy, konkrétně jsou rozvedeny dva druhy nátěrových hmot, polyuretanová a olejová, které jsou dále použity pro praktickou část práce. Dále jsou v této části uvedeny různé typy gravírovacích strojů, od historických manuálních, po moderní technologie současnosti. V praktické části práce je uveden popis přípravy zkušebních vzorků, jsou zde popsány použité povrchové úpravy, přístroje a následné dokončení vzorků. Po dokončení zkušebních vzorků je vytvořen metodický postup ověření trvanlivosti povrchově upravených i neupravených vzorků. Následně jsou zhodnoceny dosažené poznatky, které jsou poté využity pro možné uplatnění v praxi.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the durability of solid wood made of spruce and beech after the application of engraving. The theoretical part goes in depth about wood as a sustainable material and different kinds of its degradation caused by meteorological factors to which the wood is exposed to in exterior settings. Another point is then aimed at surface treatment of wooden surfaces along with coating systems, two kinds of coating substances, in particular polyurethane, and oil-based coating are expanded on, these two are then used in the practical part of this thesis as well. Furthermore, this bachelor thesis focuses on different types of engraving machinery, ranging from historical manual ones to current modern technology. Description of sample preparation is then presented in the practical part, along with surface treatments, machines used and subsequent finishing process of the samples. After the sample completion, methodical procedure for durability verification of surface treated and untreated samples is created, and the findings are subsequently assessed and discussed for being potentially used in practice.
