Financial derivatives and their application during financial crisis

Abstract:

During the financial crisis investors have started to address the financial risks and find the ways to ensure against losses resulting primarily from credit risk. Credit risk and its management becomes crucial for the development of credit derivatives. Credit derivatives allow credit risk to separate from the original commitment and marketed in the market. The most traded products of credit derivatives are credit default swaps (CDS). CDS is a modern financial instrument and its economic nature is similar to the insurance contract. The aim of our thesis is the characteristic and role of credit default swaps in the financial market as an instrument of protection against the credit risk during financial crisis.

Abstract:

V období finančnej krízy sa investori začali viac zaoberať finančnými rizikami a hľadať spôsoby na zabezpečenie sa proti stratám vyplývajúcich hlavne z kreditného rizika. Kreditné riziko a jeho riadenie sa tak stáva rozhodujúcim pre rozvoj kreditných derivátov. Kreditné deriváty umožňujú oddeliť kreditné riziko od pôvodného záväzku a obchodovať s ním na trhu. Najviac obchodovanými produktmi kreditných derivátov sú swapy kreditného zlyhania – credit default swaps. CDS predstavuje novodobý finančný nástroj, ktorého ekonomická podstata je podobná poisťovaciemu kontraktu. Cieľom našej diplomovej práce je charakteristika a postavenie swapov kreditného zlyhania na finančnom trhu ako nástroj zabezpečenia sa proti kreditnému riziku počas finančnej krízy.
