Demographic Aspects and Differentiation of Human Capital in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vybranými demografickými ukazateli souvisejícími s teorií lidského kapitálu na úrovni okresů České republiky v roce 2018. Pomocí shlukové analýzy a metody konvergence a divergence byly zjišťovány regionální disparity vybraných indikátorů (např. naděje dožití, obecná míra nezaměstnanosti, migrační saldo, podíl vysokoškolsky vzdělaných osob atd.). Výsledky dokazují, že kvalita lidského kapitálu definovaná demografickou situací obyvatelstva je regionálně diferencovaná. Nejméně příznivých výsledků dosahují periferní okresy – okres Jeseník, Bruntál a Karviná. Nejlepších výsledků naopak dosahují okresy v těsné blízkosti Hlavního města Prahy – Praha-východ a Praha-západ. Důvodem disparit je především rozdílná socioekonomická situace v okresech (např. podíl vysokoškolsky vzdělaných osob, nezaměstnanost aj.), ale i úroveň migračního salda. Obecně lze říct, že úroveň ukazatelů spolu úzce souvisí a na nepříznivé hodnoty jednoho indikátoru reagují ukazatele ostatní.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with demographic indicators related to human capital theory at the district level in the Czech Republic in 2018. Using cluster analysis and convergence and divergence method, regional disparities of selected indicators were investigated (e.g. life expectancy, unemployment rate, net migration, the share of university graduates etc.). The results showed that the quality of human capital is regionally differentiated. The least favorable situation was in peripheral districts – Jeseník district, Bruntál district and Karvíná district. On the contrary, the most favorable results were shown in the districts situated near the Capital city of Prague – Prague-East district and Prague-West district. The main reason of disparities is the difference in 
socio-economic situation (the share of university graduates, unemploytment, etc.) but also in the differences in net migration. In general, indicators are related to each other. The unfavorable level of one indicator causes changes in other indicators.
