Geographical ascpects of the population structure in the city of Karlovy Vary in the context with socioeconomic development after the year 2000

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá pozorováním demografického vývoje a struktury obyvatelstva ve městě Karlovy Vary po roce 2000. Rovněž byla snaha odhalit vazby mezi demografií města a socioekonomickými ukazateli, které byly rovněž pozorovány. Práce má odrážet, jak se v 21. století město v těchto souvislostech vyvíjí a jaká je nyní situace ve městě. K závěrům bylo dospěno za použití deskriptivní statistiky, komparativní a korelační analýzy. Z demografických jevů byly pozorovány a následně hodnoceny přirozené a mechanické měny, věk, pohlaví a státní občanství obyvatelstva. Za socioekonomické ukazatele byla zvolena nezaměstnanost, počet a struktura ekonomických subjektů, občanská vybavenost a rozvoj města. V práci bylo poukázáno na klesající trend počtu obyvatel a zároveň stárnoucí populaci, načež byla rozvinuta diskuse, zdali je město Karlovy Vary městem smršťujícím. Rovněž práce diskutuje cizince žijící ve městě, především pak ve vztahu k ruským občanům. Alarmujícím zjištěním bylo chybějící veřejné terciální vzdělávání, jež může být jednou z příčin odchodu především mladých obyvatel.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with observation of demographic development and population structure in the city of Carlsbad after 2000. Also, there was an effort to reveal ties between demography of the city and socio-economic indicators, which were observed, too. The thesis aim is to reflect how the city is evolving in this context it the 21st century and to describe the actual situation in the city. The conclusions have been reached by using descriptive statistic, comparative and correlation analysis. The natural and mechanical movements, age, gender and citizenship of the population were observed and subsequently evaluated from demographic phenomena. Unemployment, the number and structure of economic entities, civic amenities and the development of the city were chosen as socio-economic indicators. The thesis points to decreasing trend of the population and at the same time an aging population whereupon a discussion was developed if the Carlsbad is a shrinking city. This thesis also discusses about foreigners living in the city, primally in relation to Russian citizens. The alarming finding was the missing public tertiary education, which may be one of the reasons of the departure of the young population.
