Efects of postinterrupted syndrome to life of women

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE Bachelor thesis processes a topic of postabortion syndrome in relation to abortion and its potential impact on the lives of women. The work deals with the consequences of abortion from the perspective of subjective experience of women. The main research objective of this thesis was to investigate whether it is possible that the experience of abortion affects or do interfere with comunity, social, occupational or partnership life of these women in relation to undergoing the abortion procedure. METHODOLOGY The research investigation was carried out on the basis of personal meetings, interviews with women who have had abortions in the timeframes of five years after the surgery. The research group consisted of twelve respondents of which five women underwent the abortion from medical indications in the higher stages of pregnancy, the other seven respondents at their own request. The collected data were processed according to the methodology of the qualitative study by content analysis, the method of open coding. RESULTS The most common reason for interruption of pregnancy of women who have undergone abortion from medical indication was mainly the fear of inability to take care of a child and also the worries about the suffering and the frustrated life of a child. Among the second group of women who underwent abortion until the twelfth week of pregnancy at their own request, the main motive of unpreparedness on the parent role, fear of taking responsibility or concerns of their own future. Every single respondent said that remorse, guilt and feelings of sadness appeared in the period after the procedure. In the most of the cases women usually describe their tearful states acompained by the regret and the emptiness. Half of the women experienced the development of depressive state which intervened to their everyday life, which is manifested in negative influence on their working, interpersonal, relational and partnership life. A part of the results was a definition of risk groups of women for the subsequent development of an undesirable psychological state after the abortion. Based on a detailed analysis of the issues for each act of respondents, we assume that risk groups of women are women who undergo abortion in the higher stages of pregnancy, women whose moral values and education are against the abortion and last but not least women who were forced or pressed to undergo the abortion by people around them or by insisting of their partners. CONCLUSION A starting point to determine whether it is possible that the experience of abortion adversely affects a woman's life was just a description of the fundamental manifestations of PAS. In cases where symptoms of PAS appeared to a large extent it was clear that the resulting depression, anxiety, anger or unforgiveness do interfere with the normal life of a woman. At meetings of women who have had abortions, we met with a number of described negative feelings that were related to symptoms of postabortion syndrome in varying intensity. The results of the research showed that artificial interruption of pregnancy is not a common surgery and it often strikes the psychic survival of these women so much that there is social isolation, inability to work and the collapse of partnerships in their lives.

Abstract:

CIEĽ Bakalárska práca spracováva tému postabortívneho syndrómu v súvislosti s interrupciou a jeho potencionálneho dopadu na život ženy. Práca pojednáva o dôsledkoch interrupcie z pohľadu subjektívneho prežívania žien. Hlavným výskumným cieľom tejto práce bolo zistiť, či je možné aby skúsenosť interrupcie ovplyvňovala alebo zasahovala do spoločenského, sociálneho, pracovného alebo partnerského života týchto žien v súvislosti s podstúpením interrupčného zákroku. METODIKA Výskumné šetrenie bolo realizované na základe osobných stretnutí, rozhovorov so ženami ktoré podstúpili umelé ukončenie tehotenstva, v časovom horizonte do piatich rokov od zákroku. Výskumný súbor tvorilo dvanásť respondentiek, z toho päť žien podstupovalo interrupciu zo zdravotnej indikácie, vo vyšších štádiách gravidity, ostatných sedem respondentiek na vlastnú žiadosť. Zhromaždené dáta boli spracované podľa metodológie kvalitatívneho výskumu obsahovou analýzou, metódou otvoreného kódovania. VÝSLEDKY Najčastejším dôvodom pre ukončenie tehotenstva u žien ktoré podstúpili interrupciu zo zdravotnej indikácie, bol predovšetkým strach z neschopnosti výchovy a tiež obavy z neplnohodnotného života a utrpenia svojho dieťaťa. V druhej skupine žien, ktoré podstupovali interrupciu do dvanásteho týždňa tehotenstva a na vlastnú žiadosť, bolo hlavným motívom nepripravenosť na materskú rolu, strach z prevzatia zodpovednosti či obavy z vlastnej budúcnosti. Každá jedna respondentka uviedla, že sa v období po zákroku objavili výčitky svedomia, pocity viny a pocity smútku. Vo väčšine tiež ženy popisovali plačlivé stavy, ľútosti a prázdnoty. U polovici žien došlo k rozvoju depresívnych stavov, ktoré následne výrazne zasahovali do ich bežného života, čo sa negatívne prejavovalo v oblasti pracovnej, v oblasti medziľudských vzťahov, vrátane vzťahov partnerských. Súčasťou výsledkov bolo vymedzenie rizikových skupín žien pre následný rozvoj nežiaduceho psychického stavu po interrupcii. Na základe podrobného analýzy problematiky u každej jednej respondentky, sa domnievam, že rizikovou skupinou žien, sú ženy ktoré podstupujú interrupciu vo vyšších štádiách tehotenstva, ženy u ktorých je interrupcia v rozpore s morálnymi hodnotami a výchovou a v neposlednej rade ženy, ktoré boli k zákroku dotlačené svojim okolím či naliehaním partnera. ZÁVER Východiskom pre zistenie, či je možné aby skúsenosť interrupcie negatívne ovplyvňovala život ženy, bol práve popis základných prejavov PAS. V prípadoch kedy sa príznaky PAS objavili, v značnej miere, bolo jasné, že vzniknuté depresie, úzkosti, hnevu či neodpustenia budú zasahovať do bežného života ženy. Pri stretnutiach zo ženami ktoré podstúpili interrupciu, som sa stretla s množstvom popisovaných negatívnych pocitov ktoré súviseli s príznakmi postinterupčného syndrómu, v rôznej intenzite. Z výsledkov výskumu vyplynulo že umelé ukončenie tehotenstva nie je bežný chirurgický zákrok, ale často krát zasahuje do psychiky a prežívania týchto žien až natoľko, že dochádza k sociálnej izolácii, práce neschopnosti a k rozpadu partnerských vzťahov.
