Analysis of the connection between arts (culture) and business in Great Britain

Abstract:

Myšlenka postupného sbližování sféry umění (kultury) a byznysu je hluboce zakotvena do anglosaského prostředí, konkrétně tedy i Velké Británie. V současné době jsme svědky postupné transformace z tradičního korporátního sponzoringu umění a kultury směrem k vytváření partnerství založených na platformě Arts and Business (Business and Arts). Může se tedy již zdát, že tradiční chápaní pojmu sponzorství mizí. Cílem předkládané diplomové práce bude proto analýza kooperace mezi sférou umění (kultury) a byznysem na vybraných britských příkladech již aktivních partnerství. Diplomová práce sleduje téma optikou tří klíčových oblastí: umění, kultury a byznysu. V teoretické části jsou prostřednictvím historického exkurzu z pohledu antropologicko-socio-ekonomického vysvětleny pojmy jako ekonomie daru, altruismus, patronát, filantropie, sponzoring, a dále je zde popsán postupný odklon od sponzoringu k vytváření nových partnerství skrze pozvolnou trasnformaci ekonomiky. Analytická část je již postavena výhradně na 25 unikátních textech (případových studií) popisujících různé britské firmy, které se spojily s uměním a kulturou. Na tomto vzorku aplikujeme metodologii Lance Moira a Richarda J. Tafflera, která využívá formální obsahové a clusterové (shlukové) analýzy. Za využití KWIC Concordance softwaru je poměřována četnost klíčových slov (keyword-in-context) vyjadřujících motivaci firem ke spolupráci. Pro grafické vyhodnocení dat je použit scattergram ukazující korelační závislosti vypočtených proměnných. Tento typ analýzy může být považován v českém prostředí za inovativní nástroj pro pochopení motivací firem ke spolupráci s uměním a kulturou.

Abstract:

The idea of progressive alignment of the sphere of art (culture) is deeply rooted in Anglo-Saxon environment, specifically also Great Britain. We are currently witnessing a gradual transformation from a traditional corporate sponsorship of arts and culture in the creation of partnerships based on a platform of Arts and Business (Business and Arts). It can therefore seem that the traditional understanding of the concept of sponsorship is disappearing. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the co-operation between the sphere of art (culture) and business on the UK entrepreneurships with existing active partnership. This thesis follows the subject through the lens of three key areas: arts, culture and business. In the theoretical part, through a historical excursion, from the perspective of anthropological-socio-economic perspective, terms such as the gift economy, altruism, mentoring, philanthrophy, sponsorship, are described, as well as move away from sponsoring to the creation of new partnerships through gradual trasnformation economy. The analytical part is based solely on 25 unique texts (case studies) describing the various British companies, which merged with art and culture. In this sample, we apply the methodology of Lance Moir and Richard J. Taffler, which uses formal and substantive cluster analysis. We use the KWIC Concordance software the frequency of keywords (keyword-in-context) expressing the incentive of firms to cooperate is measured by. For graphical evaluation of the data, is used a scattergram showing the correlation of plot of calculated variables is used. This analysis can be seen in the Czech environment as an innovative tool for understanding the motivations of firms to collaborate with arts and culture.
