Gender analysis in selected non-profit organization

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá genderovou rovností v organizacích neziskového sektoru a jejím cílem je odpověď na otázku, jaký je současný stav prosazování genderové rovnosti ve vybrané neziskové organizaci. Aby mohl autor na tuto otázku odpovědět, využil metody genderového auditu, zejména její první části - genderové analýzy. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny základní oblasti, které budou zkoumány v empirické části práce, jimiž jsou limity a možnosti prostředí, v němž organizace existuje, cíle a struktura organizace, hlavní personální procesy a kultura organizace. Empirická část navazuje na vymezené oblasti a zkoumá je u vybrané neziskové organizace. Přitom jsou využívány kvalitativní a kvantitativní výzkumné metody a techniky k analýze základního souboru dat: organizační dokumenty, rozhovory s respondenty a respondentkami a statistiky. Ze zjištění vyplývá, že ve zkoumané organizaci chybí formální procesy a odpovídající dokumenty, které by upravovaly genderovou rovnost a postavení mužů a žen. Na individuální úrovni existuje v organizaci otevřenost vůči genderové rovnosti, ale genderová rovnost není vnímána jako důležité téma. Organizace by se měla zejména vyhnout porušování platné legislativy, uvědomit si důležitost genderové rovnosti a formulovat cíl k jejímu prosazování.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with gender equality in non-profit organizations and it aims to describe the current status of promoting gender equality in a selected non-profit organization. To do so, the author used the gender audit method, mainly its first part – gender analysis. The theoretical part specifies essential areas that will be observed in the empirical part of the thesis – limits and possibilities of the environment, in which the organization exists, the organization aims and structure, main personal processes and the organization culture. The empirical part works further on the specified areas and explores them in the selected non-profit organization. Qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques have been used to analyze the basic data set – organization documents, interviews with respondents and statistics. The results have shown that the considered organization lacks formal processes and corresponding documents that would regulate gender equality and the position of men and women. On the level of individuals, the organization is open to gender equality, however, gender equality is not perceived as an important issue. The organization should avoid breaching the valid legislation, realize the importance of gender equality and formulate an aim to promote it.
