Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce navazuje na firbasovskou teorii fukční větné perspektivy a její členění dynamických sémantických škál, které odrážejí komunikativní důležitost jednotlivých větných členů. Cílem práce je prozkoumat roli anglického slovesa v prezentační škále ve vyprávěcím textu za pomoci kvantitativní a kvalitativní FSP analýzy. Analýza se zaměřuje na sémantické i syntaktické rysy sloves, zejména jejich tranzitivitu a jev zvaný sémantická afinita. Prezentační věty jsou rozděleny do čtyř typů, popsaných v sekundární literatuře. Práce také nabízí základní srovnání anglických a českých prezentačních vět a rovněž krátce komentuje téma využití principů FSP v anglicko-českém překladu. Korpus obsahuje věty získané excerpcí z románu Iana McEwana Enduring Love a jeho překladu Nezničitelná láska.

Abstract:

The present diploma thesis draws on the Firbasian theory of FSP and its distinction between two basic types of dynamic semantic scales, reflecting the degrees of communicative importance of the sentence elements. The main aim of this thesis is to examine the role of the English verb in Presentation Scale sentences within fiction narratives by means of quantitative and qualitative FSP analysis. Attention is paid to both semantic and syntactic features of the verbs, especially to their transitivity and to the phenomenon of semantic affinity. In accordance with current research, the Presentation Scale sentences are divided into four basic syntactic-semantic subtypes. Furthermore, the study offers a comparison of the English and Czech Pr-sentences, and comments briefly on the applicability of FSP principles in English-Czech translation. A sample corpus is based on Ian McEwan’s novel Enduring Love and its Czech translation Nezničitelná láska.
