Analysis of Lexical Units in Bohumil Hrabal's prose

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnáním a analýzou české novely Bohumila Hrabala, Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále, a anglického překladu tohoto díla, jehož autorem je Paul Wilson. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na teorii překladu, způsoby překladu a ekvivalenci, pak také na vybrané pasáže z lexikologie, protože analýza se soustředí hlavně na lexikální jednotky. Dále následuje představení autorů a obeznámení s novelou. Teoretická část je tvořena korpusem, který porovnává originál s překladem, následuje analýza lexikálních jednotek z korpusu, zaměřující se také na teorii ekvivalence. Závěrečná část se soustředí na hodnocení překladu a shrnuje poznatky z práce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on comparison and analysis of the Czech novella by Bohumil Hrabal, Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále, and English translation done by Paul Wilson. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. Theoretical part is dedicated to the theory of translation, methods of translation and equivalence, furthermore it discusses chosen parts from the lexicology, as the analysis focuses mainly on that topic. Additionally, the authors and novella are introduced. The theoretical part deals with the language corpus, which is comparing the original and translated text, then follows the analysis of the lexical units from the corpus, focusing on the theory of equivalence. The thesis is closed with the evaluation of the translation and summary of the findings from the thesis.
