The difference between men's and women's native English language in the professional environment

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou jazykových prostředků rodilých mluvčí anglického jazyka se specifickým zaměřením na rozdíly v užíváním jazykových prostředků mezi muži a ženami. Práce porovnává rozdíly v užití jazyka popsané Robin Lakoff v jejím eseji "Language and Woman's Place" se současnou normou and diskurzem a analyzuje vývoj těchto rozdílů od vzniku "Language and Woman's Place" po současnost. Teoretická část pojednává o genderových rozdílech v užívání jazyka, a to zejména s ohledem na sociokulturní aspekty, které ovlivňují individuální užití jazyka a v celkovém kontextu této problematiky v odborných publikacích. Jazykové prostředky jsou popsány v kontextu genderové analýzy a sociolingvistiky. Praktická část této práce se skládá z analýzy jazykových prostředků. Autentické výroky rodilých mluvčí jsou analyzovány a porovnávány s ohledem na pohlaví mluvčích. Tato analýza je zaměřena na profesní diskurz, jejím cílem je zjistit vliv rozdílu v užívání jazykových prostředků na pozici jedince v profesním prostředí.

Abstract:

This thesis will analyse the means of language in English native speakers with a particular focus on the differences between the men and women. It compares the differences in the means of language described by Robin Lakoff in her essay Language and Woman's Place with the current norm and the discourse in the English language and analyses the development of those differences over the years. The theoretical part portrays the theme of a language and the gender differences with the consideration of a socio-cultural aspects that influence one's use of the language and the overall context of this issue in various academic publications. The means of language are described in the context of the sociolinguistics and the gender analysis. The practical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of the means of language, authentic utterances of men and women are analysed and compared in particular focus on professional discourse.
