Bank System and Monetary Policy

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na činnosti národní banky v České republice. Práce je rozdělena do pěti částí. První část se zabývá bankovním systémem a vznikem centrálních bank. Vysvětluje, jaké bankovní systémy existují a jaké jsou důvody vzniku centrálních bank. Druhá část se zabývá obecně činností centrální banky a řízením a organizací. Jsou zde vyjmenovány její základní činnosti a charakteristika. Další část se věnuje konkrétně měnové politice. Obsahuje podstatu měnové politiky a její nástroje. Dále popisuje důvody zavedení cílování inflace a současný ekonomický vývoj. Čtvrtá část se zabývá jednotnou měnou euro a reprezentací státu v měnové oblasti. Poslední kapitola pojednává o základních cílech regulace, výkonu bankovního dohledu a obsahuje základní principy efektivního bankovního dohledu. Dále informuje o transformaci Basel II do směrnic Evropských společenství a českého právního řádu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the activities of the National Bank of the Czech Republic. The analysis is divided into five sections. The first part deals with the banking system and with the origins of central banks. It explains what types of banking systems exist and what are the reasons for the origination of central banks. The second part deals in a generalised manner with the activities of the central bank and its management and organisation. Its principal activities and characteristics are defined. The following part is dedicated specifically to monetary policy. It describes the fundamentals of monetary policy and of its instruments. Also described here are the reasons for the introduction of inflation targeting and current economic developments. The fourth part deals with the unified euro currency and with state involvement in the monetary area. The last chapter deals with the fundamental goals of regulation, the performance of banking oversight and it includes the basic principles of effective banking supervision. In addition, there is information about the implementation of Basle II in the regulations of the European Communities and within Czech legislation.
