How to "hear" New artificial spiritual music. The practice of listening after the Second Vatican Council

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje tématu praxe naslouchání v římskokatolické církvi po Druhém vatikánském koncilu. Poukazuje na to, jak církevní diskurz obecně definuje a formuje hudbu a její roli v církevní rituální praxi po Druhém vatikánském koncilu, jakou charakteristiku by taková hudbě měla vykazovat a jakou formu věřícího-laika by měla podporovat a formovat. Na základě analýzy pokoncilních církevních textů a teologické debaty, práce odkazuje na církevní diskurz, který neakcentuje pouze dogmatická nebo estetická východiska k hodnocení hudby a její role v participaci věřících, ale akcentuje také prvek „funkce“. V širší perspektivě práce na příkladu díla Oliviera Messiaena ukazuje, jak teologie římskokatolická církve nabádá k poslechu hudby autorů tzv. Nové hudby, popř. jak se v této hudbě zrcadlí její „teologický aspekt“.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the topic of listening practice in the Roman Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council. It specifies how ecclesiastical discourse generally defines and shapes music and its role in ritual practice after the Second Vatican Council, what characteristics such music should display and likewise in what form should further support and shape a laity believer. Based on the analysis of the post-conciliar ecclesiastical texts and theological debate, the thesis refers to ecclesiastical discourse, which not only emphasizes the dogmatic or aesthetic basis for evaluating music and its role in the participation of believers, but also emphasizes the element of "function". In broader perspective, the thesis shows how the theology of the Roman Catholic Church encourages listening to the music of authors of so-called New Music on the example of the work of Olivier Messiaen, or how this music reflects its "Theological aspect".
