The Relationship of Christianity and Contemporary Czech Art

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje vztahu současného českého výtvarného umění a křesťanství. V prvních dvanácti kapitolách jsou zde představeni mladí uznávaní umělci, v jejichž díle se objevuje křesťanská tématika. Předkládaná umělecká díla jsou zajímavá sama o sobě a text k nim vázaný je nejen popisuje, ale poukazuje na jejich přesah-duchovní, intelektuální, ale i prostý lidský, vycházející z lidské přirozenosti a touhy. Zavádí nás k biblickým textům, dějinám umění, ale i do doby předkřesťanské a do hlubin lidského vědomí. Závěrečná třináctá kapitola této práce upozorňuje na první smysluplnou snahu o znovuobnovení vztahu umění a církve v České Republice, která vychází ze vzájemného respektu, kdy se tyto dva fenomény vzájemně nepodřizují, ale doplňují a komunikují. Dále je zde přiblížený další významný fenomén dnešní doby oživování chátrajících sakrálních památek prostřednictvím uměleckých intervencí.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the relationship of contemporary Czech art and Christianity. Here are presented young recognized artists in whose work are reflected Christian themes in the first twelve chapters. The presented artworks are interesting at first sight and the accompanying text describes them and points to their spiritual, intellectual and human deepness, resulting from human nature and desires. The thesis leads us to the biblical texts, history of art, but also to the pre-Christian times and into the depths of human consciousness. The final thirteenth chapter of this work points to the first meaningful attempt to re-establish the relationship between art and the Church in the Czech Republic. This is the relationship which is based on a mutual respect, while these two phenomena communicate and complement each other. In this last chapter is also zoomed another important phenomenon of our time - a reviving the decaying religious monuments through artistic interventions.
