Language and Style of Texts in History of Arts

Abstract:

V diplomové práci se pojednává o specifikách odborných textů dějin umění v návaznosti na rozsáhlou oblast poznávání odborného stylu v české jazykovědě 20. století; té je věnována teoretická část práce. V ní jsou sumarizovány poznatky o zvláštnostech, jimiž se texty odborného stylu vyznačují v jednotlivých jazykových plánech. Pozornost je zaměřena zejména na oblast, která je pro odborné projevy nejpříznačnější, na oblast terminologie. Shrnuty jsou i poznatky o zvláštnostech odborných projevů humanitních věd a o některých specifických rysech esejistického stylu, neboť texty některých humanitních věd jsou esejistickým projevům často blízké. Oblast jazyka a stylu textů o dějinách umění je oblastí teoreticky neprobádanou, proto je další část práce zaměřena na charakteristiku jednoho reprezentativního textu tohoto oboru. Jsou nastíněny specifické rysy, kterými se analyzovaný text vyznačuje. Bylo prokázáno, že jde o text odborného stylu. Některé vlastnosti textu mají prokazatelnou souvislost s esejistickým stylem. Z rozsáhlé škály možností, které se nabízejí k podrobnější analýze, se tato práce věnuje problematice odborné terminologie dějin umění; přitom vychází z těch termínů, které jsou zachyceny ve vybraném textu. Jsou charakterizovány zvláštnosti termínů, které se v textu objevují. Dále se práce věnuje zejména lexikálně-sémantické a slovotvorné charakteristice zachycených termínů. Diplomová práce je východiskem k dalšímu bádání v široké oblasti odborného stylu textů oboru „dějiny umění“. Možnosti, kterými by se mohlo toto bádání dále zabývat, jsou naznačeny v závěru.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the specific features professional texts in history of art related to the determining of professional style in Czech linguistics in 20th century. This area is dealt with in detail it the theoretical part of the thesis. It summarises the specific features of texts in different language discourses. Attention is paid to the area typical of the professional discourse, i.e. terminology. It outlines the characteristics of professional style in humanities, as well as specific features of essayistic style, because the texts of humanities are closely related to it. The language and style of texts in history of art has not been explored too much so far, therefore the part of the thesis focuses on the characteristics of the selected text serving as a typical example. There are specific features outlined, typical of the given type of the text. It has been proved that it may be regarded as a typical example of a professional style. Some characteristics of the text have a clear relation with the essayistic style. There are many features to be analysed, but the thesis concentrates on the problems of terminology of history of art included in the given text. It gives the characteristics of terms included in the text. It focuses especially on lexical, semantic and word-formation characteristics of the terms. The diploma thesis may serve as a basis for further research in the area of professional style within the branch “history of art”. Possible areas to be analysed are covered in the conclusion.
