Parallel corpus in german language teaching

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the work with the parallel corpora Intercorp and Czech National Corpus within the framework of German language teaching for which morphologic, syntactic, lexical and the translation itself will be analysed. Last but not least basic terms of corpus linguistics, different corpus types and other criteria helping to differentiate them will be explained in the theoretical part of the thesis. The next chapters will specify what fields be utilized and the corpus structure will be specified, too. The usage of corpora will be investigated by means of selected grammatical phenomena just as the usage of articles, for example, in German language, the significance and usage of conjunctions within adjacent sentences in German language, and the translation of particles or prepositional phrases. The search for specific phenomena is possible through parallel systems, Intercorp in German and Czech language, and the monolingual corpus Syn2015. Relying on theoretical knowledge from grammar books the analysis of concrete examples will be conducted and outlined in the practical part of this thesis. Subsequently, a questionnaire will be created. This will be sent to students of German studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Ostrava. The questionnaire evaluates their logical thinking and language skills based on the specific questions which were answered through the usage of these corpora. The outcome will be summarized, interpreted and presented in charts.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je využití paralelních korpusů Intercorp a Českého národního korpusu v rámci výuky německého jazyka se zaměřením na oblast morfologickou, syntaktickou, lexikální a v neposlední řadě na samotný překlad. V teoretické části budou vysvětleny základní pojmy korpusové lingvistiky, typy korpusů a další kritéria, která je rozlišují. Další kapitoly budou specifikovat, ve kterých oblastech je lze využívat a jak vypadá struktura korpusu. Použití korpusů je zkoumáno na několika vybraných gramatických jevech, mezi které patří například užívání členu v němčině, význam a využití spojek v rámci vět vedlejších v němčině nebo, překlad částic či předložkových vazeb. Vyhledávání daných jevů je umožněno použitím paralelního korpusu Intercorp v německém i českém jazyce a jednojazyčného korpusu Syn2015. Na základě teoretických poznatků z gramatiky je v praktické části provedena analýza konkrétních příkladů, z kterých je následně vytvořen dotazník, který je rozeslán studentům germanistiky Filozofické fakulty Ostravské univerzity. Dotazník má studentům ukázat, které dovednosti a schopnosti si mohou na základě těchto korpusů vyzkoušet. Výsledky budou následně shrnuty a vyhodnoceny do grafů.
