Communication with the Public during Emergencies: Recommended Behaviour during the Active Shooter Incident

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématikou aktivního střelce. Jak tuto skutečnost oznamují média široké veřejnosti, a jaké je doporučené chování během útoku aktivního střelce. Jedná se o bezpečnostní hrozbu, která ovlivňuje společnost a probouzí v jednotlivcích strach, že se mohou stát obětí tohoto útoku. Proto je třeba, aby měli občané přístup k informacím, jak se v této situaci zachovat a případně uvedené postupy aplikovat v praxi. Práce je také zaměřena na komunikaci mezi médii a veřejností. V teoretické části budou rozebrány některé typově významné útoky aktivních střelců a následně bude provedeno jejich zhodnocení. V rámci práce bude samostatná pozornost věnována tématu neutralizace útočníka aktivní veřejností.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of an active shooter. At the same time, aspects related to how the media communicate this fact to the general public, or what is the recommended behavior during an active shooter attack, are monitored. It is a security challenge that affects society and awakens the fear in individuals that they may become a victim of this attack. Therefore, it is necessary for citizens to have access to information on how to behave in this situation and, if necessary, apply the mentioned procedures in practice.The thesis also focuses on communication between the media and the public. In the theoretical part, some typically significant attacks by active shooters will be evaluated, and then their evaluation will be carried out. Within the thesis, separate attention will be paid to the topic of neutralization of the attacker by the active public.
