Analysis and Comparison of Causes of Economic Growth in China and India

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou ekonomického růstu v Číně a v Indii a jejich vzájemným srovnáním. Analýza je zaměřena na vliv politických institucí na růst v těchto zemích a na to jak politické instituce ovlivnily průběh ekonomických reforem ve zkoumaných ekonomikách. Analýze předchází přehled teoretické, ale i empirické literatury v oblasti souvislostí mezi politickými institucemi a růstem. Samotná analýza obou zemí je následována jejich srovnáním s cílem zdůraznit některé rysy rozvoje a reformy v demokratických a autokratických politických režimech. Zároveň jsou zhodnoceny některé souvislosti mezi zkušenostmi ekonomik Indie a Číny a obecnými teoriemi politických institucí, představenými v úvodní části práce.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with analysis of economic growth in China and India and their mutual comparison. The analysis is focused on influence of political institutions on economic growth in these countries and on the process of economic reforms in the economies under discussion. This analysis is preceded by review of both theoretical and empirical literature on the topic of interrelationship between political institutions and growth. The analysis of the individual countries is followed by their comparison with the objective to emphasize some aspects of development and reform in democratic and autocratic political regimes. Concurrently some connections between the experience of Indian and Chinese economies and general theory of political institutions, introduced in the first part of the thesis, are assessed.
