The influence of landscape structure on avifauna at local and regional levels

Abstract:

Předložená práce studuje vliv struktury krajiny na celkovou diverzitu ptáků, na konkrétní ptačí druh – jiřičku obecnou (Delichon urbicum) na regionální úrovni a dále konkrétní krajinné struktury v kontextu ptačích populací – biokoridory a interakční prvky (remízky) na lokální úrovni. Byly zvoleny různé metodické postupy. Celková diverzita ptáků a jiřičky obecné byla hodnocena pomocí dat z veřejné ornitologické databáze České společnosti ornitologické a pomocí rastrových a vektorových dat. Data pro hodnocení vlivu liniových prvků (biokoridorů) byla sbírána v terénu za pomocí netradiční metody použití fotopastí pro zaznamenání frekvencí pohybu ptáků s využitím kontrolního liniového transektu. Hodnocení vlivu remízků na ptačí populace byla použita kombinace fotopastí s liniovým transektem. Vyhodnocení proběhlo pomocí statistických programů (R, CANOCO) a geografického informačního systému (ArcGis). Na základě výsledků vlivu struktury krajiny na celkovou diverzitu bylo zjištěno, že výskyt vodních ploch a mokřadů významně koresponduje s oblastmi s nejvyšší druhovou bohatostí ptactva. Dále bylo zjištěno, že přítomnost lesů, intravilánu a orné půdy negativně souvisí s druhovou bohatostí ptactva a s jejich fylogenetickou diverzitou. Lesy (jehličnaté i listnaté) a urbánní biotopy mají ve srovnání s mokřady a ornou půdou tendenci hostit homogenní fylogenetickou strukturu společenstva. Co se týče výsledků vlivu struktury krajiny na jiřičku obecnou bylo zjištěno, že typy krajinného pokryvu spojené s přirozenou vegetací nebo s naturálnějšími metodami obdělávání orné půdy pozitivně souvisí s výskytem tohoto druhu. Oproti tomu lesní biotopy byly modelem vyhodnoceny jako méně vhodné pro výskyt jiřičky obecné. Výsledky vlivu biokoridorů na diverzitu ptáků ukázaly, že druhová diverzita a frekvence pohybu ptáků byla pozitivně spojena s úzkými a dlouhými biokoridory. Na druhou stranu lesnatější biokoridory (vyšší a širší stanoviště) byly negativně spojeny s druhovou diverzitou a frekvencí ptáků. Tento překvapivý výsledek se dá mimo jiné vysvětlit dvěma hlavními ekologickými procesy: vlivem druhového rezervoáru na lokální (alfa) diverzitu a vlivem přelévání organismů napříč stanovišti. Dále bylo zjištěno, že lesní druhy ptáků preferovaly široké biokoridory se vzrostlými porosty a vysokou schopností zástinu. Nejdůležitějším kritériem pro diverzitu ptáků v remízcích byly především lokální charakteristiky stanovišť, jako je výška porostu, šířka a mikrohabitatové charakteristiky remízku. Většina remízků hostila spíše lesní generalisty a některé druhy polních ptáků. Lesní specialisté byli pozitivně spojeni především s remízky, které byly vyšší a plošně rozsáhlejší. Keřové patro bylo pro diverzitu ptáků důležitější než patro stromové.

Abstract:

The thesis is dealing with the influence of the landscape structure on the overall diversity of birds, on a specific bird species – the house martin (Delichon urbicum) at the regional level, and further on specific landscape structures in the context of bird populations – biocorridors and scattered vegetation (woodlots) at the local level. Different methodological procedures were chosen. The overall diversity of birds and the house martin was assessed using data from the public ornithological database of the Czech Ornithological Society and using raster and vector data. Data for the assessment of the influence of linear structures (biocorridors) were collected in the field using the non-traditional method of using photo traps to record bird movement frequencies with a control linear transect. A combination of camera traps and a linear transect was used to assess the effect of woodlots on bird populations. The evaluation was carried out using statistical programs (R, CANOCO) and a geographic information system (ArcGis). Based on the results of the influence of landscape structure on overall bird diversity it was found, that the occurrence of water bodies and wetlands significantly corresponds to areas with the highest species richness of birds. Furthermore, the presence of forests, built up areas and arable land is negatively related to the species richness of birds and their phylogenetic diversity. Forests (coniferous and deciduous) and urban habitats tend to host a homogeneous phylogenetic community structure compared to wetlands and cropland. The types of landscape cover associated with natural vegetation or with more natural methods of cultivating arable land are positively related to the occurrence of the house martin. In contrast, forest biotopes were evaluated by the model as less suitable for the occurrence of this species. The results of the effect of biocorridors on bird diversity showed that species diversity and bird movement frequency are positively associated with narrow and long biocorridors. On the other hand, more forested biocorridors (higher and wider) are negatively associated with species diversity and bird frequency. This surprising result can be explained, among other things, by two main ecological processes: the effect of the species reservoir on local (alpha) diversity and the effect of spillover of organisms across habitats. Furthermore, the forest bird species preferred wide biocorridors with mature vegetation and a high capacity for shade. The most important criteria for the diversity of birds in the woodlots were mainly the local characteristics of the habitats, such as the height of the woodlot, the width and the microhabitat characteristics of the habitat. Most of the woodlots hosted rather forest generalists and some species of farmland birds. Forest specialists were positively associated primarily with higher and more extensive woodlots. The shrub layer was more important for bird diversity than the tree layer.
